Hi guys, just got a ‘20 Silverado 1500 LTZ, love it! When I open the rear door after the truck has been off for a while, a motor activates that sounds like it might be from an electronic running board. The truck didn’t come with running boards (it was used, though). Is this noise normal? Any ideas of what it could be? I have to check and see if it does it when the engine is running, I guess.

It should happen on any door you open I believe. Pretty sure it's the fuel pump priming the system.

Hunh, I have never had that in 30 years of truck ownership. My last Chevy was a ‘13. Glad to know it’s normal, if a little distracting.

30 years ago we didn't have the pressurized fuel injection system that is used today...

What engine is in your truck?

If it is the 6.2 or 5.3, it is just the fuel system priming like other have said.

I think its the fuel pump priming, or the fuel tank system releasing pressure. As I always use my parking brake so it's already engaged  when I open a door. Plus they sound different to me.

Its the fuel pump priming.  The parking brake creates a noise near the front bulkhead of the truck and is often associated with a click sound as well upon completion of activation.

Yes, it is the fuel pump.  On the newer vehicles with direct injection, GM wants to make sure the high pressure fuel pump doesn't start dry.

I have heard the same thing on 19 and 21 Silverado.   It is the fuel pump.   Pressing the door button without the keyfob on you and the you will hear the fuel pump turn on.

My brand new '21 Sierra does it, sounds like the fuel pump priming, but if not that, something spooling up.  Normal.

My old '07 Yukon has "spooling up" sounds when I open the driver's door.  The CD starts searching, etc.  They have been doing things like this for a long time.
