Very nice cars but if something goes wrong very expensive to fix and hard to work on.  I was thinking ZL1 either generation but perfer 6 gen since I know the egine well from this damn truck.  Or V2 CTSV manual, 6gen SS and do heads, cam, pistons boost.  And C6 ZO6 with bolt ons and heads cam.

I think these 1500's are already maxed out in stock form... you might want to start looking at a 2500 with all the upgrades youve done.  1500 just cant RELIABLY handle big wheels and power in a daily driver... all those mods put a ton of stress on the parts you upgraded too from stock..  1500 trucks are best left alone in stock form for daily drivers.

Yeah that's just wrong lol

Some very good points made. Just frustrated having to replace a transmission at 50k mies. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so expensive (trucks). Guess that's a sign of the times. GM asks so much more $$ for a lot less of a pickup. Just can't like the new ones. They look like juiced up Honda Ridgelines. 👎

they tend to fall apart when the screws are put them. , many components on the 1500 need  a lot of upgrades to handle more hp

I see ya have a bone to chew on here. 🤣

One of the things that made the 239 Flathead Ford indestructible was the inherent designs lack of breathing and ability to make compression. A little over a 3/4 horse per cubic inch in a really hot rodded motor. There are a few guys today getting closer to 1 hp/cid today and still stone axe reliable motors.

Somewhere between million mile bone stock flatheads and 3 hp/cid NHRA Pro Stock motors that wouldn't go 30K in a street car is everything else not Koenigsegg with reliability to match power density and current states of the common arts.

Ya gotta hand it to GM sometimes. The ECOTEC3 4.3 is duel fuel motor of 262 CID that stock at the flywheel is 287 hp on regular and over 300 as a tippler. Power density of mid 60's muscle cars with the reliability to meet the 200-250K expectations of most drivers today. Amazing!

That said they do not have allot of cushion built in because?  I got used up already. The nature of materials has not changed as fast as power density demands have. Today they are asking motors sized for a motorcycle to propel 1/2 tone trucks. But 8620 nickel gear steel is still the same.

It really is helpful to have a touchstone of reference for such discussions.

How many guys slapping turbos or blowers on a 5.3 take the motor down to increase the ring gap? Built into the cake with Detroit does it. But guys don't and break the thing and call it junk or weak. Pretty sure what is weak is the thinking behind the build and it's expectations.

Please feel free to disagree.... 😉

Other than the trans give me 3. Suspension is fine unless you are on 35s doing boosted 4x4 launches. Rear end is good for quite a bit of power.

@Grumpy BearDisagree heavily with that one. It is so easy to put on a supercharger, without gapping rings, and moving on out with no issues.

the suspension in no great shakes, under sized brakes,  too much front bias, undersized steering links (dangerous for offroading) not good if your on 35"

rear end is good, under utilized rear disc brakes is a waste..

i got a laundery list of other issues i cant recall it all

Most tards put AMG badges on their non-AMG vehicles and here you are suggesting to debadge a legit AMG?  Insanity.

more fun when you de-badge a hot rod, and re-badge it as the  Base model with base model rims and tires... thats when the insanity begins,  and the tears start rolling

If I had the desire to have a overly modified factory performance car again say like a hellcat. My first project would be to make it look like the V-6 version. Badging, wheels, wings everything. I only want to amuse myself. Not be a hey take me invitation every time I drive it. Have I done that before, yup.

In my day that is what we called a "sleeper".  :)

2014 SLT, original owner. Had my first "real" problem last week, dealer had to replace the HVAC servo for driver side temp control. Otherwise just a few nickel and dime issues not worth mentioning. "But...but...but.... you should never buy a first year model change, too many bugs need to be worked out". Well I guess I got one of the good ones then. I have to confess, it only has 61,000 miles, lol!

    • You could try a used 1, they used that engine in the Astro vans, Plenty of them in the boneyard. Look for a wrecked or rotted 1 so the chance that it was scrapped for that reason and not a mechanical issue will be greater

    • My centre console USB ports haven’t been working and the one in the glovebox is starting to act up. When I plug my phone into the cord the radio will go black and stop playing, and the CarPlay is inconsistent.   I checked the fuses and they were fine. I changed the USB port out and still nothing. Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.
    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
