Really?   "a little hard headed."   We are all old and hard headed, you underestimated your capabilities Brother.....LOL  My brain bag is not working right but when it is I come back to GM-Trucks to try to catch up....

I have my Avalanche going on 4 years. I got it with  full maintenance records. Oil change every 3K miles filter 6K. Most maintenance up to date. Just had a new water pump before trading in. A  real cream  puff. Shortly after took a trip. On  comes the low water light. Add water no  leaks drive home. A little later the light comes on again. No leaks, no water in oil. First oil change a  little sludge at first then clean oil. Then I read  about head problems in that  year model. The 92 hot rod truck before that I had 12 years. Blown, stroked a real screamer. A qt of oil every 500 miles. Never opened the motor. The next owner enjoyed it two more years. Trading it in. I rarely follow the crowd. I like to see what happens. So far it’s paid off. Maybe that’s hard headed. I just remembered that low water light came on again.

Cummins must have made some big bucks off Valvoline on this one.

I'm intrigued by this one.  Reason being Valvoline is making some extremely bold claims.  Biggest breakthrough since they invented the motor oil?  Really?  100% of deposit removal?  Ok lol.

They're basing it on a modified Sequence IIIH test, which is very demanding.  Maybe Valvoline is getting playful with the backing they now have....hmmm.  Time will tell on this one.  Valvoline tried something unique with their Modern Engine formulation, which failed due to the high price.  Trying to go the boutique route and selling it at Walmart is doomed to fail.  Valvoline has always been a mediocre brand.  They do have a nice lab and facility in Kentucky.  They can run all the tests required to certify oils, in-house.

Premium Blue Restore is a different product.  Whether they share chemistry is anyone's guess.  That oil was a PAO/POE formulation with high solvency.

It will be interesting to see what Valvoline has to say about this hyped formulation when they roll it out in early 2024.  It could very well be the oil with the most solvency readily available off the shelf.  We'll see....

I'll stick with HPL.  :)

Valvoline introduces 'advanced engine cleanup' oil

Valvoline Blue Restore Gen2

Valvoline introduced its visionary Blue Restore Gen2 motor oil the company says is capable of reducing or eliminating engine overhauls for vehicle owners with extended ownership cycles this week during ATA's Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting and Expo in Orlando.

Valvoline's Blue Restore is a unique formulation 10W-30 that is designed to provide advanced engine cleanup in a single service. Developed in partnership with Cummins and endorsed and recommended by the engine maker, Blue Restore is based on a blend of Group IV/Group V synthetic base oils coupled with a special additive package originating in Premium Blue CK-4 chemistry.

The company says the unique formulation helps remove piston deposits that can originate from fuel and engine oil combustion. When implemented at the right time during a vehicle's life, Valvoline says the oil can clean an engine so well that a likely overhaul date is extended months or even years.

The company recommends customers use Blue Restore Gen2 for one complete oil drain interval then run the oil until the next maintenance event, when it is the drained and replaced with the engine's prior oil as a low-cost option for consistent, long-life engine performance. Valvoline also notes because the product can produce considerable sediment evacuation, close monitoring of oil filter particulate capacity is recommended once the oil is in use. Oil filters also may require changing earlier than an oil drain interval due to sediment captured.

Extensively tested for years by Cummins in both engine and field service, Blue Restore Gen2 has shown no harm to engine components and system performance.

Blue Restore Gen2 is available in gallon, five-gallon and 55-gallon drums.

This is a different oil, unless what they're about to reveal is based on same chemistry?

Here is the product description:

"New Restore & Protect Premium Full Synthetic is the biggest breakthrough in motor oil since Valvoline introduced it 150 years ago. With continuous use, Valvoline’s proprietary Active Clean technology removes up to 100% of deposits, while its exclusive Liqui-Shield technology works to prevent future deposit formation. A clean engine minimizes friction between metal surfaces, helping to improve fuel economy. Valvoline Restore & Protect is the best motor oil for any age vehicle, from a new car’s first oil change to high-mileage vehicles. There’s no other motor oil like it. Valvoline Restore and Protect Premium Full Synthetic helps maximize fuel economy, horsepower, and engine life. We made it first, so you can keep your pistons factory clean. Renew. Restore. Repeat. (*Up to 100% piston deposit removal when used as directed for four or more consecutive oil changes at standard maintenance intervals, based on adapted sequence IIIH testing.)"

I know the CASTEC head issues were a thing and some had luck using the GM coolant tablets.  I used them in my 2002 when I flushed the coolant out at the 5yr mark and put AMSOIL coolant back in.  Never an issue and I read somewhere online that GM used them from the factory. The reason was due to aluminum heads on an iron block. GM wanted to keep things from leaking.  I also saw on the Northstar forum that they were a common use item on that engine as well.

They claim it's the only oil that can clean pistons back to factory clean removing 100% of all deposits. They're claiming no other oil can do this. Based on modified IIIH.  IMO,

probably no other oil off the shelf.

Really no other details about it.  Specs are limited.  It looks to be majority III with some novel additive I guess.

I would be apprehensive about putting any cleaning oil in a higher mileage engine. I would worry about clogging oil passages and the oil pick up screen. I have experience using a high detergent oil in an older engine and clogging the oil pump screen. Using in a new engine as a preventative. That would be fine.

True, but they say it can take up to 4 OCI so it's not a one and done type thing.  Takes some time.  But claiming 100% removal is very impressive.  It appears to come from an innovative additive technology rather than high solvency base oils.

I watched the video carefully several times and did not get this impression. :dunno: Help me out please. I've been a bit distracted.

We all know manufacturers say a lot of things to promote their products. They haven't proved it works have they?

I can't say for sure but I'm getting that from this:
