I have not driven the gas version yet, but can imagine that it is a lot of fun to drive. 

 

Had the 5.3l in my past 1500. Also, got the chance to drive the 3.0l Duramax for a day and thought that it had tons of pep.

My fiance is from Presque Isle...we visit there often.

 

I love my 1500 which is why I joined. Im sure ill love the 2500 thats on order too

Best truck I've owned, and I've owned many.  Had always owned half tons, this is my first 3500 HD. Extremely capable rig.

Gotta love the 35 gal oil drum muffler! Drop about 50 lbs by doing a cat-back. Gonna do another on my '24 this weekend! My mechanic buddy has a nice collection of my stock GM exhausts...

Here's my story...I ordered a '15 2500 HD Crew LTZ new in Feb of '14/ It was the first time I've ever ordered a vehicle with everything that I wanted. Deep Ruby Metallic w/Cocoa & Dune heated leather, heated steering wheel. $45,900 out the door! I've always wanted a High Country because they were Chevy's top-tier, and never really cared for GMC's gawdy front ends. It was a great truck, put about 110k. I almost bought a HC interior out of a salvaged 1/2 ton for the '15, but decided to just order a new one when the 6.6 gasser's came out and dealerships wanted more for used HC's than I could order a new one for.. So, March of '22, I built & ordered a NorthSky Blue High Country 2500 crew w/Black & Umber interior. About 2 weeks went by and the local dealership got in a  NorthSky Blue GMC AT4 that had pretty much the same options, except it also had a sun roof. My salesman called me and said they'd give me a helluva deal on it because someone ordered it but backed out because it had taken over 6 months to get in & he moved on. I bought it while waiting for my HC because the used truck market was crazy & I figured I could drive it for 3 months & make a couple grand while doing so. The AT4 was nice, but it wasn't no HC, and had a couple interior things that I disliked compared to the Chev. I drove if for about 2 months, my HC was built & shipped by rail. The GM tracker said it was on the transport truck & would be at the dealership on a Monday eve, around 1730 hours. I listed the GMC on Craigslist that eve, and had it sold twice by 10 a.m. on Tuesday! My HC never showed up then, but kept saying it was in transit & the salesman insisted that it'd be there in a day or two. Friday, the buyer of my AT4 showed up to pick it up.  I thought, "Hey, I'll just drive my 'ole Squarebody for a couple days until my HC shows up"...a month later they FINALLY unloaded it off the transport truck. About midway through this process, I learned that GM was going to "Refresh" the HD's & add the 10 speed Allison. Wishing I had waited another couple months before I ordered the '22, because I LOVED the updated interior layout, along with the "Nightshift Blue/Black" option, and of course the Allison! Although I loved the '22 I ordered, I decided to build & order the '24 with the updated interior I liked, and also the new "Lakeshore Blue" exterior. I placed that order in June of this year. Although Chevy let me build & order this truck with the new blue exterior, they emailed the local dealerships Internet Sales Manager & told him that the paint code hadn't been finalized yet & the "Lakeshore Blue" wasn't available yet. Instead of making a phone call to me to discuss this issue, he took it upon himself to switch the exterior color to white on a $77K truck! They told me they'd make me another "helleva deal" on the white truck, but I wasn't settling for that kind of $. Fast forward to late August, the dealership was able to re-order the same truck in Lakeshore Blue. It showed up in 8 weeks. I was surprised by how much lighter the Lakeshore was than the NorthSky Blue. I do think it'll be more forgiving on showing grime, scratches, etc.. I him-hawed for about 10 days whether I was going to go further in debt as I had a buyer for my '22 back out at the last minute, therefore I would have to take a beatin' on trading it in for the '24. Nonetheless, I pulled the trigger because it was FINALLY the truck that I was satisfied with being my last new one as I want to retire when it's paid off! To bring this long-winded story to a conclusion, I have to say that this truck with it's upgrades over the '22, is just simply AMAZING!!! I towed my job trailer home from a job this eve for about 30 miles, and it's crazy that these trucks just keep improving in their towing abilities over the previous platforms. I don't care what Ford or Dodge MAY have that MIGHT be a better feature, I'm Bow-Tie FOR LIFE!

Love that color Bob.  It has tempted me for months on ordering a new truck, but I still resist.  To the theme of the thread, I have to say I do like my 2020 HC a lot!  I will like it all the more in another month when it's paid off!  Dealer has offered me close to what I paid for it, but of course the replacement has gone up more than a little!

That’s a crazy story sir. Sounds stressful. Now fill those tailgate holes with silicone. You should have some handy in that there construction trailer behind you haha

Yeah, I think I have some black or bronze, that should match that plastic pretty well!

I absolutely love my 2023 Carhartt Edition HD gasser and every GM truck I had before this one.

Nothing rides like a GM and they getter smoother every year!

Let's see - I started with a 75 Chevy LUV 4X4 LIFTED, then a 67 short bed 3 speed on the column, then an 84 S-10 2WD, next was a 93 WT with a V6, then a 97 4x4 Z71 - put 160 k of real hard miles on that 1500 and it took it all in stride. That 97 will always be one of my favorites.  From there I went to a 2009 Sierra 1500 SLT and dove that for 155 k miles until the frame rotted so bad that I sold it as is for peanuts and that is how I ended up in my new 2023 HD.

My wife had an S-10 Blazer, then went through 4 Acadias before her current 2020 Midnight Edition Z71 Tahoe.

Doesn't get more GM than that!

Never heard of the carhartt edition. Did it also come with the carhartt seat covers? Nice!

    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.    
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
    • It's just useful to disconnect the battery to prevent odd shorting out when unplugging/plugging stuff together.  I also  touch the two cable ends together (after disonnecting) to drain the small amount of stored battery energy in various modules.   I believe the main system where you need to be more concerned with, so you need to do the above and then wait some time, iss when you are working on the air bag system, to prevent inadvertent firing of the air bags.   The in-cab switches are just that, plain switches, it's generally not a problem to swap them in/out.  For my '12, I'll get an error message on the dash if I power up the truck w them unplugged, but that's it (power up= turn the ignition on).   The ITBC located above the spare tire is a computer that manages the trailer brake system.  That is probably more important to have the battery disconnected.  It does have to be programmed to the truck, either before or after it's installed, for it to work.  For my '12, I had a very hard time reinstalling the main connector to it (IDK if yours is the same or not), it turned out the silicon seal was jamming up, preventing it from going on all the way.  I finally got it fully installed by lubing the seal with a bit of dielectric grease, then it slid on and latched in place easily.
    • JR ! I just got the truck back from the Dealership today . The technician did a cold remote start on the truck this morning and it made the noise . It was determined that it was a starter issue and replaced it under warranty . Of course   it did not make the sound after a new starter was put in because the truck was not cold . We will we see what happens tomorrow morning when I start the truck cold  . Keep tuned !   Oh I found a video on YouTube of a cold start and it did the same thing your truck and mine do , I will see if I can find it and post it up
