Just bought a 2024 2500HD, Z71 package, great looking truck, love the multiple cameras and safety features. Within the first 500 miles, the radio cuts out and won't come back on unless you do this almost silly reset procedure - go to Safe Mode, open your door, wait one minute, and then it should reset....but it doesn't. The biggest issue though is a rattling sound from the front end - suspension/steering area. I have a ranch in the Texas Hill Country so the road to the house is a bit rocky, but nothing an off road package truck shouldn't be able to handle. My 2019 GMC Sierra with off road package handled it perfectly, no issues, so did my F-250. All the noise and feedback through the steering column happens driving between 5 - 10 mph and when you get to the rocky sections of the drive. It feels like I can feel every bump through the steering wheel and it seems like the suspension feels weak and wobbly, like it might fall apart any minute.

I took it to the dealer, rode with a tech who heard the noise and agreed it shouldn't do that. They said the bushings and everything else looked fine. They thought the issue was due to the truck being in Auto 4WD and their solution was to make sure the truck stays in 2WD mode. Needless to say, the truck makes the same noise in 2WD and the radio still works intermittently after a software update.

Another strange issue occurred yesterday on the way to work. I was approaching a turn and when I stepped on the brake pedal, it wouldn't move. I could not get it to push down. Nothing in the floorboard to prevent it from going down. I let off the pedal and tried again and it worked correctly. A bit scary slowing down from 70 mph - would have been a big mess if it never worked properly. Dealer says they have had no report of this issue and of course couldn't repeat it.

Does anyone else feel like their steering wheel is off-center? Mine looks like it is a few notches to the left of center.

I am supposed to take it back Monday for a new radio but I plan to leave it there and have them go through the entire front end. I can't imagine a HD truck with such sensitive suspension/steering. I've owned at least 20 trucks in my life and never experienced front end issues like this. Have any of you experienced this? Any ideas on where to focus?

I hate to think I bought a $70K pavement princess. Appreciate any feedback - Thanks.

Well, be persistent wit the dealer to fix it.

In March bought a 2024 Silverado 3500 LTZ, it had a steering wobble,, dealer tried road forcing the tires and even new tires and still had a steering wheel wobble.  2 weeks later I traded it on another 2024 3500 LTZ with some additional features and I preferred the color better.

So far they have replaced the steering box and steering gear(clunk from steering on rough roads at slow speeds) and they have a front drive shaft on order. Every time I let of the gas there is a spinning thump thump noise coming from the center console area.  Dealer states the drive shaft is within specs but they think replacing it should resolve that issue.

Fingers crossed.

I would contact Chevrolet customer assistance immediately and open a case. I would then ask the dealers service manager to contact Chevrolet technical assistance and involve them in your next service visit.

1) the clunk could be many things, the fact that they couldnt find anything is indicative of the fact that you have already gotten to the end of the talent road with that dealer. Time to call in some new minds. Standing around the truck and saying "Yep" isnt gonna get it fixed. Both my 2021 3500 and my 2024 3500 (identical truck) had some noise from the suspension but nothing like your describing. When slow speed on uneven terrain it sounds like the torsion bars on mine shift a little bit but mine has the "camper" front bars.

2) the brake issue is troubling. I would not accept the truck back unless some action was taken to diagnose the concern and its done by someone with Chevrolets tech assistances approval. FULL STOP.

3) The wheel being centered is a little confusing. Do you mean that the steering column isnt centered in relation to the dash or that the steering wheel is not straight while driving ?   GM has a history of their steering columns being a little offset. My 2018 1500 Silverado was very obvious.

Yes, GM does have a “history” of offset steering wheels so no surprise there.

The power assist for the brakes is the “hydra boost” (I believe that’s what it’s labeled). Works through the power steering fluid. The master has been known to leak with age but I never experienced the “stuck pedal” syndrome.

My steering was off a couple of notches...Dealer realigned and it spot on now.

No other issues.

The brakes issues is a HUGE concern.  Dealer should address immediately.

In short no...I have a '24 LTZ with around 5k miles (I don't commute to work so its mostly short trips and my early fall AZ elk hunting trip - with a few scouting trips). Off road, on road the truck works near flawlessly, except a driver mirror that rattles on the dirt roads. I've had the truck re-aligned when I got a leveling kit for it and I added a steering stabilizer and it runs great on dirt.

My wife's 2023 suburban 3.0L however was a nightmare the first 6 months of ownership and the GM strike didn't help, but they finally got all the kinks worked out in November.

Bottom line, that brake issue you have is NOT okay. Thats a safety issue and GM needs to fix that ASAP. Make sure the dealer pushes the GM tech assistance on it. The other issues are annoying too, especially the rattle. My truck is tight with no body or engine/trans noise, so thats what you should expect too. Worse comes to worse, if the dealer can't get it straightend out ASAP I'd ask them to offer to buy/trade your vehicle in for what you paid for it...and if they don't bite, Lemon law it if you can.

I appreciate the responses! I’ll see if the service manager can help. I was told by another customer in the waiting area that he will get things done. I guess we’ll see. My position is basically that I don’t want the truck back until they either fully resolve the front end noise or they just decide to let me get a different truck. Thanks again everyone.

had a 2020 and 2022 that had a pull to the left or right, i forget which one but both did it and seen a few topics here with ohers claiming the same......my 23 has been dead on perfect, havent been on any rough roads so cant speak to noise

My 2021 had a pull to the right when I took delivery. Rather than get jacked around by the dealer (I have a history of issues with the alignment on a previous truck) I took it to a shop that knows what they are doing and are honest. The caster was off on the right front. Cost me less than $100 to get it squared away. Sucks to have to do it that way but it got fixed in a timely way and I moved on with my life.

I came from a '22 Ram 1500 when I purchased my '24 Chevy 2500.  I was very surpirsed the first time I took the new truck down some dirt/rocky roads.  I felt every vibration coming through the front end to the steering wheel.  It felt like there was no grease in any of the joints and the ball joints were clattering around in thier sockets. None of my half ton trucks ever felt like that.  A gentlemen on this forum told me that I should expect a little of that given the old school architecture of the front suspension (pitman arm, idler arm, etc) as compared to most new half ton trucks. I was not totally satisfied with that response.  After adding quite a bit of grease to each of the 9 zerk fittings and adding a steering stabilizer to the front end, the vibrations at slow speed on a rocky road were grealty reduced.  Can still feel some vibration on rocky roads at slow speeds like you mention but not near like it was.  It does not feel as tight as my half ton trucks but after a year of driving it I have gotten use to the feel.  On the roads at normal speeds it feels almost as tight as the half ton.  Hope this helps.

The steering and suspension are very different between a half ton and a 2500HD.

The fittings all have grease in them when they are manufactured and delivered to GM. Although many here have added grease to the fittings on their new trucks its not necessary until the first service. Many folks overgrease their trucks and disrupt the seal on the fittings which will actually let moisture and dirt in.

I had a 1500 Silverado in 2018 and then went back to a 3500 in 2021 and 2024. They are vastly different in ride and steering due to their design differences.

If you ever drove a 70's era half ton 4wd you would see just how improved even the new 2500/3500 trucks are, they ride like Cadillac's compared to the old leaf spring solid axle trucks. Even my 3500 with camper front torsion bars is light years ahead.

I've had issues with my 2024, but minor compared to what you've experienced. Good luck.

Any news @Brianb33  ?

I forgot to mention that for the radio issue GM will not just send a new one for the tech to throw parts at it. Before they can order parts there is a diagnostic process they must follow in order to get the electronic parts released. This prevents the "parts cannon" from being fired at vehicles. (at least in theory it does)

Update - new radio loses sound every 3-5 minutes for a second or two when using satellite radio or using your cell phone to play music. Plays fine on AM/FM.
I think the front end rattle is something with the steering. I completed a survey from GM Cares and they want me to take it back to the dealer this week to address the radio and rattle, and want technical services to be involved.
Just completed first long tow w/travel trailer, about 7500 lbs, terrible headwind, averaged 6 mpg for the 200 mile trip. But the truck towed great. All the cameras are great too.

Going to ask dealer to take a look at the steering wheel, still think it is a notch to the left.

One goofy new issue is that every time I rest my left elbow on the upper arm rest by the window, when I move my arm off it makes a noise from the the vinyl being pressed down, like the sound of stepping on a sticky floor.
I’ll post updates later this week if any progress is made.

We were coming back from a camping trip pulling our trailer. For the last 2 hours of the trip we had no sound. When I say this, it was just not the radio...also turn signals didn't have sound either.

When we got home, I stopped the truck engine, got out of the car...got in 10 minutes later and started the car and now have sound again.

I was at the dealer a few days later and talked with the service manager. Sounds like they have seen this before and they say it's a software bug and that they can update the software on it for a fix. We will see.
