  1. FCA Boss Sergio Ready To Force GM to Partner

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/31/2015
The GM-FCA merger talk we though had died down has picked up again. In our story of June 18th we explained that Sergio Marchionne had asked General Motors to discuss merging. GM was reportedly "abrupt" with their reply declining the invitation. Now Marchionne says that GM won't answer his calls. Normally, that might be the end of the issue, but Marchionne thinks that he has the ability to pressure GM by working with GM investors. A hostile takeover is one way to say it, but Marchionne doesn't seem to want that. What he wants is to have a discussion.

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/27/2015
The 2015 and 2016 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra make excellent handicapped-accessible conversion vehicles. This according to James Limoges, of Ride-Away in Norwood, MA. James says that the truck in the 2014 video attached is not a one-off vehicle. In fact, the company has one being delivered this week to a customer. According to Limoges, the Silverado and Sierra lend themselves to easy conversion and the shop engineers and technicians love to do the modifications, being fans of the trucks themselves.

GM-trucks could not let National Dog Day go unrecognized. In preparation for the day, we conducted an intensive survey of the five dogs we know, asking them, "You love the Tahoe, don't yah, don't yah!" while holding up a Beggin' Strip. 80% responded in a very positive way. Only Brian from Family Guy said he preferred the Toyota Prius.

They said the final decision is up for discussion in the talks now underway, and must be agreed to with the union and then Ford’s board of directors." 7. Polaris' special forces ATV is insane

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/26/2015
The U.S. Government announced this week that its replacement for the Hummer won't be a large, flat Jeep-sort of vehicle, but rather more of an MRAP (mine resistant armored personnel vehicle). We all know that Hummer was fantastic at meeting its design parameters, but that those were way off base for warfare in urban areas strewn with IEDs. That leaves a gap. The military needs a smaller, lighter, faster, more nimble vehicle for fast action on any terrain it calls a light tactical all-terrain vehicle (LTATV). The Polaris MRZR2 and MRZR4 two and four passenger off-road military vehicles fill that LTATV need.

Looking for a crate engine from Chevy with a broad, flat torque curve with peak torque low in the rev-band? Chevy has an engine for you. Unlike most crate engines this one is not a small block V8. Rather it is the LTG four-cylinder turbo used in the new 2016 Camaro.

GM plans to locally produce Chevy models specific to the needs of the region.

The next Ford Raptor will be the first with a mainly aluminum body. Some composite parts will be even lighter than aluminum. The Raptor is also going to go with the second-generation 3.5-Liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 rather than a V8. Predictions are 450 hp and a huge boost in torque compared to prior Raptors. Ford released the following video to get folks thinking about what this truck will be capable of. The Colorado ZR2 cannot come fast enough.

  15. UAW prepares strike vote during contract talks with GM 1 2 3 4 5

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/17/2015
Not being expert in all things United Auto Workers, we will report without too much speculation that the UAW has begun to prepare for a strike against General Motors if the contract negotiations don't go to the union's liking. Multiple news outlets following the contract talk's progress reported this afternoon that the UAW is setting up votes to authorize the use of a strike if needed. To be clear, the vote is not to strike or not, but to get the Locals' support in advance so that tool is available later if it is required. Marketwatch reported that UAW President Dennis Williams commented on the topic of a strike, saying that if it came to pass a strike would be a "failure on both parties' part."

  16. Would you buy a Chinese-made Buick crossover?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/17/2015
The Detroit Free Press has reported that GM is considering importing for sale in the U.S. a new crossover larger than the Encore and smaller than the Enclave (think RAV 4 size) from China. Oddly, we had just joked in a story earlier today about SUVs that the Chinese pronounce the word car "Byu-Wick." Like with the Holden Commodore from Australia we know as the Chevy SS, and the new Buick Cascada from GM's Opel in Europe, the UAW has a lot to say about GM vehicles imported from outside North America. Most of what it says is not printable in a family publication.

  17. Where is GM selling all those SUVs?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/17/2015
General motors is swamped with work at the Arlington, TX full-size SUV plant. The plant is so busy it added a third shift, then the occasional Saturday, then this week announced it would go to a six-day work week. This seems to imply that GM is selling Tahoes, Escalades, Suburbans, and Yukons all over the U.S. in ever increasing numbers. As our sharp-eyed forum member SnakeEyes pointed out after our story on the Arlington Plant last night, that is not the case. As a matter of fact, the big SUVs are way behind last year's sales figures here in the U.S. market.

  20. Cadillac's next plan to boost sales "One car too few"

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/14/2015
Going forward, Cadillac has to face an unpleasant fact. Sales are down. Lexus' SUVs outsold all of Cadillac in July. Lexus cars also outsold all of Cadillac in July. Many analysts see BMW as Cadillac's target. A strange choice to mimic since BMW is a brand that has only one successful model series in the US market. Cadillac's new President, Johan de Nysschen, came from Infiniti. One idea that de Nysschen put in place there is also planned for Cadillac. That being calling every single model by the same letter. At Infiniti, it became Q. At Cadillac, it will be C. Infiniti's sales are not exactly fantastic since the change.
