Just Weighed My Truck

A new scrap yard just setup shop in my area, so I brought my 2500HD to the scales to see how much it weighed. The with a full tank of gas and about 150 lbs. of stuff (rubber bed mat and some tools underneath the ext cab seat) came out to be 5580lbs. I was expecting something around 6000-6200???. I asked the guy there about the scale and he showed me the documentation that it had just been certified. Doesn't this seem way off?

I went to pick up some decorative rock at a local rock dealer (lol), and they weigh your vehicle before & after...my '04 CC HD weighed in at a whopping 6540lbs w/a near full tank of fuel, 285's on H2 wheels, and some other aftermarket goodies.

Your right,a 2500HD should be around 6k,If you post me your VIN I can run it and tell you the shipping weight from the factory.

Were also having this conversation over in the light-duty section as well.....http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry1004933

I assume its a DMAX? Sounds right for one of those, they seem to be around the 6400-6600 lb. range.

For some reason, equivalent Ford and Dodge diesel trucks are heavier than Chevy and GMC ones. About 7000 - 7500 lbs for those. Maybe they use thicker rear bumpers?

Ford & Dodge have solid front axle, cast iron engine block & heads making a much heavier and stronger front end.

Actually it's a 6.0L...I was kinda shocked also. I don't suppose their scales are calibrated regularly anyways.

I would say that the weight might not be too far off. I remember getting my truck weighed back at FT Campbell and I was pretty surprised that it was several hundred pounds below 6000lbs. I remember my 2001 3/4ton Suburban weight was right at 6000-6100 pds so my truck being several hundred pds lighter surprized me. My truck is a pretty plain jain 3/4ton, 6.0L gasser, ext-cab 2wd. It has roll up windows, rubber floor.

Additional options, such as power windows, locks cruise, extra insulation, power seats, etc could account for another 200 lbs or so. I just removed the driver's seat from my old Mercedes 300SD and the power seat weighs a ton! It has a huge gearbox base with 3 electric motors attached, and there is the fourth motor and gearbox in the seatback.
