Where can we find this TSB? My buddy has to get his fixed and doesn't want to have fight the dealer. If he has to fight to get it fixed under warranty he'll be driving a Blue Oval.

Got the document .. thanks... it will come in handy at the next dealership visited. The one I bought the truck from is still quoting I need do the consumption tests..

O.K. Here is the information you people want to see. In Google Search, punch in..... Document ID: 3242444. It is the first topic on the list. (PDF# 100601008G EngineOil Consumption on Aluminum Block/Iron Block). It will give you 8 pages of detailed information that mechanics need to properly service this problem. Including Build Prior dates to inform you that it may be possible that some 2011 already have the updated parts!

Now on the first page, under "Condition", last sentence reads: It is no longer necessary to have the customer return multiple times to have the usage verified.

I came back to add that if using Firefox, the document will download to "Downloads" in the tools tab.

THANKS!

Almost 77,000 miles.

Thanks. I was curious; some others with higher mileage have said that after their piston rings got clogged up, the top-engine cleaner/new valve cover/oilpan deflector fix did not stop the oil usage--they still had to get new rings. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Reading over the TSB reaffirmed the procedures I have taken early on with my engine.... installed a PCV oil catch can and disabled the AFM function. Maybe would not have had any issues anyway, but just giving me an edge.

Going for the valve cover, decarb and pan pvc fix. Service mgr said it has stopped the problem on all they have done. Will see. May take your advice and add catch can after the repair.

Good news is my friend went from an '11 to a loaded '14 SLT CC. Been driving it for 6 months. No issues what so ever. If I can get this one down to about 1/2-3/4 qts per 5,000 change may keep. If not,'15 if I can find the scratch.

I have a 2000 5.3L iron block. 201,000 miles and i use conventional motor oil. No oil leaks.

Great to hear your gmt800 isn't using oil. this thread is related to gmt900 trucks many differences in the engines between the models (AFM)

The poll is about GMT900 trucks.

My 09 Tahoe has been consuming about a quart every 3,000 miles. It started kicking out smoke when I start it (48,000 miles) so I took it in. They are going to install the deflector and clean the engine. I will be out of warranty very soon so I'm worried about it. Any advice?

ETA: I also have an 09 Silverado but it has an iron block and isn't consuming any oil. Is there anyone with oil consumption that has an iron block?

I just added the Range module Wednesday. I am at 1000 miles on my current oil change which I found is when the consumption begins. I will let you all know what I find. I am currently at 106,500 miles.

Currently at 107250 and down 1/2 qt. the range seems to slow the consumption a bit but not eliminate it. I do not have any AFM rattle which is a plus.
