Disarming Onstar

Knowing where the fuse is is good but ive heard theres two modules for onstar does anyone know where they are on an 08, I would just feel better disconnecting the system all together, and also will it put a code out or cause any problems with my truck by disconnecting it?

Thanks for any help

There is only one Onstar module. Disconnecting it completely will generate some problems like your radio speakers not working and the chimes for the door and blinkers not working. If you have the truck dash it is mounted to the dash panel below the radio. Just disconnect the antenna from the system. You can do this either at the headliner end or at the module itself.

Having recently completed the bluetooth VCIM swap, I recall two antenna connections on the back of the VCIM. Do both need to be pulled, on or the other?

I am not in favor of pulling the fuse as I expect I'd lose the bluetooth phone connectivity.

Maybe take off your tinfoil hat and put it over the antenna and see if that helps...
You're a moron. If people don't want to be tracked that should be their choice. Not the government or a private company. Now, go sit in the corner with your dunce cap on.

I've had my fuse pulled since the free subscription ran out years ago. I'll be disconnecting the box tomorrow. I'll let you all know the details .........

I cancelled XM because they are a ripoff ... AND they are the most ruthless business I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Called them months in advance to tell them NOT to renew my subscription. They whack my card anyway. I call up to dispute it 4 times & got absolutely nowhere. Had to put a stop-payment on it through card company. Unbelievable!

Did the exact same thing to 3 other people I know personally.

How am I a moron? I actually posted a way to get rid of onstar in another thread, I will repost it here for you...

I have over a dozen years of experience with car stereos and the like so I decided I would figure out a way for all of you guys that want to permanently disable it, what you need to do is get yourself some gas, if you have some in your tank you can use that, then a lighter and burn the thing to the ground. This will solve all of your problems, not only will onstar not be able to track you but you will no longer be able to use the vehicle for the activities you are paranoid about people finding out about so basically it is win win for you to burn the truck to the ground.

Hahahahahahahahaha! That's funny! Although I agree that people wanting to disconnect onstar shouldn't deem them "tinfoil hat" wearing folk..

OnStar antenna = XM antenna?

I want to disconnect mine also but I don't want to lose XM.

Ah yes. this is true.

Police departments don't have time to jack around with OnStar to find habitual everyday speeders. I hate big government, but I pay my monthly subscription to OnStar because I like it. My cell phone and credit card probably relay more information about my position, speed, habits, etc. then my OnStar.

since Onstar still 'collects vehicle information' even after you cancel it, does that mean they will still notify help if my vehicle is ever in a serious accident? I've paid for onstar for 2 years and havent pushed the blue button once. I dont want to spend another 365 dollars for another year, but wish they would offer some more basic plans.

Nope is the answer I got for OnStar. But I supposed you could hit the blue button after the accident and resign up with your Visa card... might be a little hard to do depending on your injuries and dialing 911 would be faster anyhow.

I agree with JrDirt - Make it + 4. XM has to be one of the sleaziest hard sell companies to deal with, must work for some folks or they would not do it... but for me it was such a nightmare I had to cancel / close a visa card to get them to stop charging me for years all the way out to 2013 and 14 on a truck I no longer owned!

If your worried about big brother a Droid base smart phone tracks more info on you then OnStar ever will.. OnStar just knows what your truck is doing... oh and its all in the ODB computer in the truck anyhow, anyone can grab that data if needed including your mechanic, police and insurance companies.
