Disarming Onstar

Really? Then tell me why you think it is legal for you to get a ticket for running a photo red light even if some one else was driving. They are ticketing the vehicle. And in case you haven't noticed lately, especially here in Florida, insurance companies have the state's blessing to do whatever they want.

You do not get a ticket if someone else is driving the vehicle though, you have the option to sign an affidavit stating who was driving the vehicle at the time. Most systems now record an image of the driver as well to prevent people passing the points off to someone else drivers licence.

I'm real proud of some one like you that has never ever broken some kind of regulation while driving. Where and who else lives in your perfect world?

When did I say that? Of course I have broken "some kind of regulation" while driving, I have long given up excessive speeding and such tho because it just is not worth it anymore with price of gas and insurance rates after a ticket. If you must know I had a ticket in 2003 for doing 133km/h in a 110km/h zone, a ticket in 2005 for not obeying traffic signs the cop let me off of doing 77km/h in a 50km/h, and a ticket in 2010 for breaking some kind of noise bylaw. And I have been pulled over for driving left of center on a residential street, burnt out tail light, driving what the officer said was to fast into a merge lane with a yield sign, driving wrong way down a one way street, and there once there was a whole big thing when I had my plates stolen.

Let's stop this nonsense. Why do you think some one or some corporation should make your decisions for you? I want to make my own choice. If I think I want it, I'll sign up. If not I won't. You don't get to decide and neither should GM or any other manufacturer. You give up your personal freedom little by little, and pretty soon, you have none at all.

Onstar announced today that they have reversed their decision to track people even when there is no subscription. We can take off the tin foil hats now.

And you believe them? Why? They didn't tell the truth about it the first time.

It must suck living in fear and trusting no one/anything in life. I had a girlfriend like you once. She's still a single mom that cheats in relationships, get's cheated on, allows her children to walk all over her and hates her life in general. Too bad nobody can change it for you, only you can. Funny part is, some people actually LIKE living life this way. Crazy, I say. This goes for all of the posts here with this same line of thought.

My 2 cents and now I'm done.

You make zero intelligible points, you made two comments to me, I responded to them, basically you thought that you would try and make smart ass comments to me and it would annoy me or I wouldn't know how to respond and you'd be super cool on the forums.

Personally I feel as though you should check out http://seasteading.org/ maybe if they ever get that going you could move there, prob have to sell the truck tho.

That's a pretty bold statement around here now-a-days. Seems like there are nearly as many "bitch" threads as there are good ones. :)

Apparently it is a hate/love relationship with many. :D

Forgive me if this has been brought up, I didn't read every post on this thread.

If you have a cell phone you are being tracked. I am not really sure who cares what I am doing while I am driving. Maybe all this data that everyone is collecting is to incriminate me in some big crime later in life....who knows, who cares. But also, maybe some yahoo runs into my truck and tries to blame me, now I have the data to prove him wrong.

Oh yea, most of us have GPS's in our vehicles now a days, I am sure someone, somewhere can use that too.

Not to mention the chip they implanted in everyone when they were a baby

If I had been told about this when I was a subscriber, perhaps I could better accept it, but my trail subscription ran out, I am NOT a subscriber. How can they modify my terms and conditions when I do not have a contract with them?

As for the comment about having a cell phone and being tracked, BS! Two ways they can know where your cell phone is, 1) you have GPS and it is on, 2) they triangulate your position by what cell towers you are connected to.

My phone does not have GPS and not just anyone can access cell tower information to find me. Onstar should not be able to track me without my permission (default is no permission) and should not be able to sell my information without my permission (default is no).

Unless your phone was made more than like a decade ago you do have gps in it, sorry to burst your bubble. It isn't nav-capable but it is used to locate you during 911 calls.

When I first setup the 1 yr free onstar on our Tahoe I was in the garage. They got to the credit card part and I said I didnt have it with me. The lady on the other end said "I will wait while you run in and get it" I was like I cant I am not at home (did this as a test) and she proceeded to redad off my address and say arent you at home right now? They knew exactly (maybe not to the exact point in the garage) where I was. TMI (to much info) for me. no thank you.

Anyone remember the tom cruise movie where they would arrest you before you commited the crime. Crazy stuff  I will go take off my tin foil hat now

This thread is getting to the point where it is completely out of control and I acknowledge that a lot of that is my doing BUT I have to ask you one question. Were you honestly surprised that they knew where you were? Did you not sit back and think to yourself this is how the system works? I mean if you were driving somewhere you didn't know and you needed roadside assistance you can do it the way people without gps do and get all pissed off and try and describe where you are or by hitting onstar they know exactly where you are and they send someone to you.

My mother has driven nissans since the 80s and this spring she came out of work to a flat tire, she called road side assistance and they had no idea where she was even though she repeatedly gave them the street address of where the vehicle was. They called her back and said that they dont know where she is and cant get a tow truck to her after about 30 minutes and said so you have to find your own assistance and we will reimburse up to $50. So she called me and I changed it for her in the end. It is situations like this onstar is designed for and why I cant understand why people are so worked up about the thing when it provides an extra level of service for themselves or their family.

I carry a plug kit ... and GM was nice enough to include a jack, just in case. I don't need, or want OnStar .... and I will STILL disconnect the system, once I catch up on my other projects.

Nope not at all just thought I would share a story of the 1st dealing with onstar back in 2008. It kinda ticked me off she said she would wait for me to go inside my house to get the credit card. Guess what I didnt.

I know that I said that I was staying out of this earlier but........

I told the Onstar adviser that I didn't have my cc on me, when I was setting up my account just like you were and I was in my driveway, and she said no problem, just give them a holler back with it at a later date. Maybe you adviser was pushy or something but, you had already informed them of where you lived before that and it's even more special that your gps signal was picked up with the truck in the garage too.
