Finally Retired

I finally retired from the US Air Force after serving 21 years as an aircraft mechanic. Now I am transitioning into civilan life. The wife and I decided to settle in my home state of South Carolina near Charleston, about three hours from my home town. I managed to find an apartment, now I have to concentrate on finding a job and start a new career.

The move from North Dakota was fun once we got on the road. We made stops along the way at families homes so we lucked out and only had to pay for one night at a motel. I had fun towing a Uhaul trailer. I got to get the biggest one! Don't laugh, I don't tow at all. Truck pulled great with the 5.3 & 4spd. It did suck the gas down. According to the DIC, I averaged around 13mpg coming across from North Dakota till I got into Kentucky. Then it went up to 15mpg going to South Carolina. I used the tow/haul mode the whole time and had no problems. Without the trailer, I am back up to 19mpg.

Below are some pics of the move.

Congrats and thank you for your service!

I got about 12-13 towing the same trailer from NH to MI but I also ignored that 55 mph recommendation on the trailer. I figured since a lot of the drive was in the dark and I couldn't see the warning on the fender, that it mustn't matter at night.

Thanks guys, it was a choice I really enjoyed and got a lot out of it. I wouldn't have had it any other way. 21 years went by pretty fast!

On the gas, I stuck with the 87 octane and kept the truck & trailer at a constant 70 mph when allowed.
