Cutting off cats to avoid setting fields on fire? That's a damn myth, especially with how high up they are on most trucks now. If someone does that now they're just being a damn idiot. If you feel like cutting off cats whatever, but it won't be any "safer" in the field than before.

It is not a "myth" Mr. Mike. Seen it happen more than once down here, set the field on fire and sometimes the truck went with it if the driver left it idling and could not get back to it in time. I guess you have never seen how high the grass grows in a hayfield before you cut it. Idiot you say, mighty strong word there...

If it's not required for the vehicle to get me to work, then it's useless to me.

What's the difference if I mow my lawn? Or ride my motorcycle? Or take a joy ride in a boat? Or an airplane? Or a cruise ship? Or fly on a commercial jet?

NONE of those things have emission controls except for motorcycles - but only in the last 3 model years.

Your still breathing, aren't you? I have asthma & I'm still breathing with these things running around me every waking minute of my day.

Try again smartass. Planes and ships absolutely have emissions controls and in a way, so doesn't most power equipment as they're just better made and run cleaner than in years past.

On these trucks, yes I stand by calling someone an idiot for cutting them off for fire risk- they're too high up. If you drive into grass that high even normal exhaust could likely start the fire. Now on older trucks where it was down low like a muffler you'd have a point, but not on these. I mean you'd have to drive through grill-high grass to reach the cats. I can't say I've ever worked on a farm but growing up in NH and living in Michigan now I'm surrounded by them and I've never seen anyone drive through grass that tall that was out there for a legitimate reason (ie not some stupid kid blasting through a field).

Can tell your from the northeast ...

Ever been to Mexico? Have you seen the vehicles there? Or how about every single country on the planet besides Europe and Canada? Why do WE have to pay for these emisson controls when the rest of the world does whatever it pleases??

So your telling me that our millionaire legislators yachts that burn 300 gallons of fuel an hour all have emission controls. Ok ... right ... SMARTASS. :seeya:

You can tell I'm from the northeast how? You're just coming across like a even bigger moron every time you post.

And large ships do have standards to meet:

And if you don't like that America and other civilized nations have environmental standards, please leave as I doubt anyone will miss you. Just watch what you eat/drink/breathe in those third world shitholes...

I can tell your from the northeast ...... because YOU HAVE NO FRIGGIN CLUE ABOUT MIDWEST FARMING or FIELDS! Your calling the guy an idiot for something those guys have been doing since those stupid-assed cats got stuffed on every single exhaust since 1975. Have you ever even been there??? I doubt it from the sound of it.

Ok smart guy. You know it all - I guess that's why your on here - The oracle of all things mechanical. So with all that knowledge you should be able to dislodge your head from the collective ass of the EPA.

I like FREEDOM. I DON'T like government telling me or auto makers what to put on their vehicles. If we need clean air, then the market will come up with things to make that happen. When the government MANDATES systems, you end up with CRAP! Just read through this part of the forum for all the problems these new vehicles have. We've been building vehicles for over 100 years now - you'd think they'd be able to make them last longer than 30k miles before needing major service. We put a man on the moon in '69 for Christ sake - it's not that big of a job.

So ships and planes have emission standards. I was wrong. You were right & I was wrong. You happy now?? You want a cookie now, big boy? You feeling better about yourself now? Great!

Well I've got a life outside the net, so I'll leave you to your treehugger rally. Don't eat too much granola. :loser:

Hahahaha I actually live in Michigan now and have made my way to 41 of the 50 states as well as a scattering of Canadian provinces so yes, I have seem plenty of farms and what it takes to manage them. You just said people have done this since 1975 and that proves my point- with cats way up by/on the manifolds, the fire risk is practically nonexistent. And I do know more about vehicles and engines than you, I can all but guarantee that.

And don't beat the personal freedom drum in defense of removing cats, it just makes you look like a bigger idiot. You do not have the right to own a vehicle, to drive a vehicle or to modify it as you see fit, period.

And not everyone from the northeast is a mindless liberal, just like I bet most people where you live aren't as ignorant as you.

Wait- you live in Massachusetts and are calling me a tree hugger? Hahahahahahahahahaha good lord I can't get over the irony in that. There is a reason anyone who is able makes the jump to NH and only commutes to Mass for work. I may live in Michigan now but I spent 27 years enjoying what is surely one of the least intrusive state govts in the nation. There's a reason all you fools have to come to NH in the summer for fireworks and anything else fun- your governor and that idiot Patrick in Boston have legislated fun and personal freedoms out of the state!

Ok everyone calm down, arguing on the internet is not cool and no one wins. Let's get back on topic!

C'mon guys, you can all move to Kansas where there aren't any regs and be friends. :)

No emissions or inspection in Michigan either but I have no reason to pull my cats. Unless they're plugged cutting them out gains nothing on a modern engine. Plus tornados are scary.

    • I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome.
    • Next Friday will be my 6 week point from my right knee replacement.  The surgeon says it will be fine if I choose to drive after this checkup.  I know I could drive now but best to do as my surgeon (and my wife) tell me.  Richard compared being 62 to 72.  I remember when I was in my early 60's I was experiencing slow but regular decline in my mobility.  Thanks to good medical support,  i continued to fight the speed and spread of this decline. During my 60's I worked on non-surgical methods and just when I turned 70, my orthopedic surgeon recommended joint replacements.  In a little over a year, I had one shoulder and both knees replaced.  This hasn't been a terribly fun experience, but worth the discomfort as my future mobility health trajectory has reversed.  It is a treat to now be watching my mobility. balance and confidence steadily improve!
