Ordered a water pump this morning and would like to change my belts when I swap it out. I'm curious about which belt to order. From what I understand, that is determined by the type of alternator that I have, is this correct or is there another way to determine which sizes I need?

I'm looking to pick up Gatorback belts as well as replacement tensioners...

The belts usually have markings on them e.g. 4060922 (which reads: 6-rib, 92.2") but it can be annoying to read them off serpentine belts. I noticed the Gatorbacks were much quieter than the factory belts. IIRC Amazon had decent prices on belts and pulleys (but that probably varies by model).

I'm sure someone will chime in with what model #s you need.

Use Gates or Goodyear Gatorback both are premium quality and quiet. You can, as mentioned, get the old belt #. Look at your alternator, you'll see the amp size marked on it. More than likely you have the smaller size of the two. Check parts prices both locally and online. I can buy belts, pulleys and tensioners for the same or less than Rockauto or Amazon. Sometimes Amazon may have the lower prices, but their prices fluctuate lately

Dayco also sells a belt that is similiar to the Gatorback.....I bought one years ago after discovering that it was hard to come by the Goodyear belts locally. It is still on my truck and has performed well. They can be bought at Advance Auto Parts.

After doing a little research I see that Dayco no longer manufactures the Poly Cog belt. It was replaced with the Poly Rib belt. I found this info from another forum:

"I'm the Director of Marketing for Dayco Products in North America. A few years ago we changed our national brand serpentine belt construction from Poly Cog to Poly Rib "W" belts. Why? Today's belt are now made with EPDM rubber to last 100K miles. Today's OE belt drives are not created equal and some can be real demanding. Since these EPDM belts have stiffer charactoristics, they are prone to make noise with slight misalignments. Dayco engineers created the "W" Rib to allow the stiff rib to conform to slight misalignments and not make noise. Every manufacturer was forced to make this change to EPDM and everyone faced noise issues. The change from Poly Cog to Poly Rib was a running change as inventory ran out. This started in 2007 so lots are gone. AutoZone and Advance may still have your number."

Now you can see how long I've had mine installed.....lol

Thanks for the help, guys.

I had to go by the number on the old belt as I couldn't find the amp size marked on my alternator.

Just got done replacing both my belts today with new Gates belts....I was told from the dealer earlier today while getting my oil changed that I needed to replace my ac belt..I asked him how much...his reply 130.00 to replace an ac belt I laughed and told him I would do it myself for that price. Just an fyi.... there was only one little crack(and I mean little) on my ac belt and not one crack on my main belt and I just turned over 93k...not bad wear I would say for a 2007.

Bowtie for Life !!!
