I appreciate what Glock brought to the market. And I appreciate how other manufacturers ran with it and made guns with more features. Like the Croatian XD. Loaded indicator, cocked indicator, and a chamber that fully supports the case. :jester:

Glocks have all those things except for the fully supported chamber in .40. .40 is a pointless caliber anyhow.

Only because .357 SIG exists

I've never really understood the point of .40 either. I like 9mm. And I like a gun that can hold 20 rounds of it.

I've put more through the xd than any other pistol, so I'll probably stick with it and ones like it. I've shot a few others (FN, S&W, 1911), and didn't like any as much.

It was only made because some FBI agents couldn't handle the recoil of 10mm. Modern 9mm works just fine. I bought a .40 barrel and mags got my Glock just to keep options open in case ammo gets scarce but I'm not convinced it has an advantage over 9 or 45.

Okay guys I need some advice. The Fiancé's Cobalt continues to have a fuel smell even after I've replaced the rusty fuel lines, and the gas cap with an OEM one. Today I noticed that the engine light was on so I had it scanned. Turned out to be a P0442 code. According to that it has a small evap emissions leak. I was going to order a new solenoid for it, but it doesn't make sense to me that it would be the issue since I smell gas even after the car has sat for hours.

There is a recall out for the fuel pump seal on top of the tank so that leads me to believe that is the issue. Anyone else think that sounds reasonable? The dealer didn't seem to care about the recall when I talked to them a few months ago, and they were going to charge me labor if that wasn't the issue so I went ahead and fixed what was wrong myself. Figured I would at least narrow it down. I'm thinking it's time to let them have it for the recall now because there's really not much left that it could be besides that.

It'd be easy enough to check. Almost every sedan offers access to the pump if you pull the rear seat bottom. There'll be an access panel to pop up and you can see the tank. Is there a recall on the gas tank? If so, what's the harm in having them do it?

Nice I didn't know that. It's a coupe so do you think it will still have the access?

I wanted them to do it, but they said if they started messing with the car and that wasn't the problem I'd be charged for the repair. I guess it's a recall, but it's only covered if the seal is actually bad. Kind of dumb, not sure why it's considered a recall then.

I knew it needed new fuel lines so I figured I'd do those first so I could rule those out. Just wanted to rule out the other things before I let them look into the seal recall.

Hmm... After some searching it seems the Cobalt doesn't have the panel under the seat. Surprising. Just about everything I ever worked on that wasn't body on frame had that. You got a cliff nearby?

Lmao! No cliffs. Guess I'll let the dealer take a whirl. At this point I really don't think it could be anything else anyway.

I have yet to see an easy way to a fuel pump on anything that isn't foreign.

My Volvo has a little compartment in the trunk - four bolts with a 10mm head, and it's off. The '86 Grand Marquis you can sort of access from under the car due to the design of the tank.

My Silverado? Well, tank down or cab off is the only way.

I take that as GM giving me the middle finger .... so I'll extend it right back at 'em by never buying another one of their poorly engineered crap-boxes ever again.

Anyway ... like most GM cars I've worked on, the tank has to come down.

That's odd. Newer Cadillac full size cars (DeVille after the turn of the century) have an access panel in the trunk, whereas the earlier (like mine) require a tank drop.

Dunno, you'd think with the relative longevity of a fuel pump it wouldn't be necessary. My Dad's never replaced one in any of the vehicles he's owned during my time on earth, and despite my abuse of my Cadillac's pump (running the car absolutely as far as she'll go without going till the car dies), I've never had any issues either.

Then again, my Cadillac is a wednesday car.

My Chevrolet is a monday truck, but the guys on the line musta got lucky all weekend, very well built and put together. Just like my Cadillac.

Was trying to see if pricing was out on the 2017 CX5 and stumbled on this.....Do you see it? a Mazda dealer shouldn't make that mistake. Looks like they are in Florida....

Thinking of selling both of my Xbox One's to buy a higher end laptop to game on. Getting tired of the X1's never working correctly and being junk.

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
