Help with cab lights

I have a 2004 GMC 2500HD and I would like to get cab lights on it. And I have a couple of questions, first do I have to use the lights that would have came on my truck from factory or can I use a newer model? Next question is can I do this on my own or is it more of a job for a shop? If i could do this on my own is there a how to out there or where should I go for help?

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

It can be done if you are handy with a drill, tape measure, and wiring. If you are not comfortable drilling about 12 holes in your cab, you need to go to a shop.

Some things Its just better for a shop to do.. As far as what kind you can put whatever you want on the roof It all

comes down to lights,wiring,switch.. If the shop has a good stereo/wiring guy.. They will come on with the other

lights and operate like they should with no leaks.

Id rather change the tranny then pull a headliner and start trying to do those lights!

Thanks for the help I think I am going to go through a shop and have it done right. I think I am going to go with the Recon set.

I did my own almost 2 years ago now...I did mine alittle different then the factory ones....I didnt like the look of the bar in the middle....As for the wiring...at least in my truck that was the easy part...the truck was prewired up to the side of dash on the passenger side..I bought a factory harness to run up to the roof...and from there on I had to splice into it because of the way I did my lights...Everything works perfect...I do have one pesky one that keeps getting condensation inside of it in a real hard rain..but thats the only complaint I have about it....Deff makes the truck look ALOT BETTER IMO......If I look deep into my favorites I am sure I can find part numbers for everything I got...

It does look really good and I am not really worried about the wiring, my issue is with the sealing of the lights and keeping out water. I did find a shop to do them for me for just a little more then what the lights will cost so thats the route I am going to take. But I would like to know what brand of lights you went with I like the look of the lights like that?

Thanks

They are all the OEM GM lights that would be the two outer ones ..The ones that come from the factory on each side of the bar ..A company on ebay was selling the Exact OEM lights for like 20 bucks a Light...(They are like 60 EACH from the dealer) I just looked on ebay, I couldnt find that company anymore though :(
