Went and priced new AT tires, in a LT265/70/17:

 

$268 Michelin LTX A/T2

$253 Dueller Revo

$244 Cooper AT3

$217 Falken Wildpeak

 

Felt the sidewalls on the Wildpeaks, and even in a P tire, wow they are thick. The Wildpeaks in a P tire are only $170 or so, according to the store they'd work ok, but I'd still rather have 10 ply. The Michelins look great and would last a long time, but for that price I could get 285's. Not sure what to do

Really contemplating those Cooper ATP's from Discount Tire. Depending on who mounted them it'd be about $830. They have great reviews.

Trust me I'm in Craigslist all the time that's how I got my new 285/70/17 bfgs for 550 and my 34/10.5/17 super swampers for 250 I've been having my dune connections search for 35s too

Do enough searching around and you can find a good price on what you really want. I just put my coopers on for less then $900 installed.

My advice would be to run the 34's while you save up for tires you really want, or until you find a good used set.....or if you really want 35's now, then buy a budget brand (wild country and kelly safari are very popular around here) and skip the re-treads
