New 2013 Sierra

Was sorta a sudden thing. Traded in the old 2000 Sierra and bought this:

5.3. w/afm, 6 speed auto, 3.42s

The incentives were pretty big and my old truck was aging. I really didn't want to get rid of the old one as I loved that thing but the potential for failures down the road, creeping rust, and a somewhat recent lack of desire to constantly dick around with old vehicles sorta pushed me over the edge (must be getting old). The new one is nice. Very smooth and quiet ride. There is what seems to be a HORRENDOUS drive by wire lag, though. The old truck was so much more responsive and frankly more fun to drive. Hope the computer just needs to "learn" yet. The 6 speed auto is a little weird feeling. Oh well, I just got it today so hopefully I just need to adapt. The old truck fit me like a glove, gonna miss that thing. :nonod:

Nice truck! The 6 speed takes a bit to get used to coming from the 4 speed, but once you do it's way nicer. Its a great smooth shifting transmission. I think you'll like it.

Yeah, it seems like it would be a good towing machine with the extra gears to work with.

Is it true there is not a direct plug in available for a brake controller on the 900's? On my 2000, the harness for my controller plugged right into a block under the dash. No hard wiring needed.....

I think you will get adjusted to the new truck in time. I have had my '13 Silverado for 2 weeks and love it.. The MPG are just as good if not better than the wifes V6 Traverse I traded in. I am not sure about the brake controller my truck came with it in the tow package..

Congratulations on the new truck....very nice. As stated the six speed feels different after driving the 4. The lag you speak up may be the 4 cyl/ 8 cyl AFM lag or it may be all the torque management programmed into the truck.

zedbear,

Congratulations on your purchase! I would also have to recommend giving it some time to get used to the differences. Feel free to contact me if you need additional assistance.

James Andrew,

Thanks for your input as well. Good to hear that you are enjoying your truck.

I was noticing the rear wheel wells have a lot of exposed painted metal. Is that something I should have covered? I was thinking of getting a spray in bed liner soon and I noticed online that some people have the wheel wells sprayed as well. I think I also saw a reference to a wheel well liner for the back. I just want to try and keep this thing from rusting like the last one. Would you guys recommend mud flaps as well?

Thanks.

zedbear congrats on the new truck. I went from a 2000 to a 2012 about 6 months ago the 6spd does take some getting used too. The truck does seem to learn you driving style as well. After a short time the old 2000 that I bought new was a distant memory until I passed it in town the other day with someone else driving it. LOL

Gm does make a wheel well liner kit for these trucks. I think I would look into some type of rust proofing treatment if I lived in the snow country like U do.

I was wanting to say GM charges $250 for the liners? Have read some are putting Rugged liners on. Ebay link for $89 shipped.

Maybe someone on here has bought them & know if they fit as they are suppose to?

Most of the "lag" is the torque management that GM (and everyone else) uses on newer vehicles. It can be easily improved by tuning, but you're modifying a new truck, which raises warranty questions. I have a 5.3/4-spd, and have tuned it myself (mostly for towing purposes), and it runs *great*. If you decide to tune it some day, everyone speaks highly of Justin @ Blackbear, but I don't have experience w/ his work.

As for the 6-spd, that's been an ongoing discussion for folks since '09. Some love them, some don't. I *really* like my 5.3/4-spd/3.73 combo, but it doesn't really matter since they've been phased out. My next truck will "have" to be an A6, which is fine with me. The A6 gives better towing for more conditions w/ the extra gear, but it can be "busy" around town w/ the 5.3. M5 disables AFM, and limits shifting in town, so you may want to try that out.

I got a pair of GM rear wheel well liners for around $95.00 shipped a few months ago for my 2012 Silverado. They fit perfectly and they look great. Much nicer than seeing the paint under the wheel wells. Search for them on ebay. That is where I found mine.

I bought a set for mine off of ebay for $90 a little over a year ago. They fit good. I think this spring im going to take them out, and just undercoat the wheel wells.
