I search this thread and maybe I missed the answer or maybe it wasn't brought up however I have stock halogen housings and while I'm not too keen on cutting up my set for a retrofit I looked into aftermarket. Anyone swapped with an O.E. style aftermarket housing?? Good morning all.

 

I've installed Morimoto 55 watt Hid's into my Sierra stock housings. All is good except during the day of the lights turn on (automatic) the left side does not turn on. If I turn them off and back on again manually it turns on. Never happens at night, only during the day.

 

I've checked all of the wiring and fittings, all is good there.

 

Any thoughts?

Man been a while since I've been to the forums. Having a problem with my HID's again.. Intermittently the passenger side will not come on immediately, I have to turn them off and on a couple times to get it to come on. It did it about a month ago and I swapped the ballast to see if the problem would follow and no luck. I moved some wires around and chocked it up to a pinched wire. Well now the problem is back. I'm displaced right now too with all the flooding in Texas so I don't have a lot of time to take it apart and look at it. Just seeing if anyone else had a similar experience..

Check the connection from the relay harness to the ballast input. Sometimes it gets corroded or the pins back out of the socket.

Anyone go from factory standard lights like on my Silverado LT Z71 to Projection or put the mean looking 2015/16 headlamp assy in a 2014. Looks like they will fit with the factory hood. I can be reached directly at [email protected]

The LTZ projector headlights will work. 2016 headlamps probably not.

Did you connect your capacitor link? Check the ground connection on it too.

Dumb question. I purchase a HID kit and currently waiting to install as I need a relay kit that was not sent with my kit. I am wondering why the difference in single and dual relay kits. Which one do I need for my vehicle? I see the morimoto kits are all dual relay but there are other kits that are single. Advantages/Disadvantages to the different ones. Thanks.

Decided to create a new section on our website to help save people some money. It's called the bargain center. In there (at the moment) we have some group buys setup for the FXR kits for 2014/15 Chevy and Sierra. Essentially it will yield you about a 20% savings or right around $65. All you need to do is make a group buy purchase (in full, not a deposit). Once 10 buyers have purchased the group buy will be complete and start over. If you purchase you need to be mindful that your discount is due to the group buy discount. Until the group buy is complete nothing ships. A group buy may take a few days to a month to complete. If you are in a hurry this is not for you unless you and some buddies can rally and all head over to the site and make your purchases. In the unlikely event that you have been waiting a month we will email you and give you the option to receive a refund.

None really. Get a small shroud like a mini gatling. The bulb socket will need to be rounded out so the projector threaded end can fit through.

Just wanted to say thank you to FastWS6TA for his recommendation on fog lamps. Got the lights fast and had great communication with him and his coworker.

Swapped out my HIR bulbs for some HID's today. 55w 6000k. Nice and bright now. Please note I am on a hill thus why you cannot see the cut off lines on the light in the first picture.

HIDs in the fogs too? If so, what brand and wattage kit?

No I am running cheaper leds in the fogs just for a similar color temp look. Did not want to go hid in the fogs due to the risk of melting the housing. Fogs only put out light right in front of the bumper not really much usable light output.

 

Here is a pic with the fogs off so you can compare the light output

Mann this is so confusing.. I have the standard headlights in my Silverado and bought a set of Winjet projectors with the LED light tubes and really liked them but it wouldn't throw the light out far enough and that's with comparing LED to HID and actually the standard bulb threw the light out the farthest??? Night lighting is very important to me so I'm very interested in this thread but after reading the first 75 pages I just skipped to the end. Forgive me. So basically what I gotten out of this is you have to buy projector headlights then convert them? And is that aftermarket headlights or GM? I would really like to convert my standard headlights but looks like it not to many people have. Please educate me and where I need to go to buy the parts.

      My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.

      Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.

      Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
