So....used E85 yet?

this is inaccurate, its more like 94-96 octane, the mistake is comparing gas octane to E-85 octane.

I have already stated this, please read

E85 is an abbreviation for an ethanol fuel blend of 85% denatured ethanol fuel and 15% gasoline or other hydrocarbon by volume. Ethanol’s true octane value range, is about 94-96 (R+M)/2

You positive on that? I don't recall hearing that, but I'm no expert.

My local station states 100+ octane.

Being this new station is on my route home from work, on the right hand side and brand new station... and E85 is cheaper. As long as the MPG's don't take a huge blow I'm sticking to E85.

25% hit usually for MPGs

That article is still inaccurate the 105 octane rating is wrong. Its even stated in Renewable Fuels Foundation.

Regardless, I'll continue running it. It's 15 octane higher than base grade and 25% cheaper. It's 10ish octane higher than premium and at least 35% cheaper.

oh I never said not to run it, just a octane glitch with what retailers post.

Its just not available on 6.2's from the factory, I have to add sensor/s fuel lines and modify my factory tune. I would bet the 6.2's would eat it up and make good power.

See the link in my signature. Carl did my conversion and tune.

My truck was not FFV from the factory.

I agree his response didn't make me feel very good about trying it. I think I will test it out with the premium tune though. I mean the truck is designed to run on e85 so I don't think I need to test e85 on stock. If I hear any pinging I will immediately put back the stock tune and it should run just fine since the truck is made to run on e85...

Havnt tuned my truck yet but with hptuners you have different fuel tables. Even if they changed your tune to premium, if you were e85 from factory you should be fine.

Ha, you are discrediting Hot Rod Magazine and Kurt Urban.

Do you even know who Kurt Urban is? He is one of the top LS engine builders in the United States. He was pushing the limits of the LS platform before anyone, and does not spit out BS. I am sure he doesn't post over here, but I welcome you to take your thoughts over to YellowBullet.com to show some real racers how educated you are on e85.

There are no stations in CT and only one in MA (Boston area). No stations in RI, VT, NH or ME. So only one in the New England area. Waste of option for me.

I'm about 125 miles into my first E85 tank ever in my life. My truck has a total different persona. The transmission sluggishness is gone. Much easier to drive in city traffic. Turns out it's not the transmission's fault.... the truck just needed +25HP and +33 Lb/Ft of torque. Problem fixed. I'm sold on E85. Truck runs like a raped ape. MPG's have not suffered as much as I expected. E85 capability is now a must in life. Add it to the list of must haves.... direct injection, locking rear diff, OnStar, E85.

I only run E85. never regular unless there isnt a E85 pump around. The power is a big difference but the way the transmission shifts is 100% the reason I only use E85.

On regular fuel the shifting is awful. With E85 it is crisp and smooth and QUICK.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
