So....used E85 yet?

E85 in Fargo for $1.75 vs $2.49 E10 87 gas. My E85 tank averages are about 16 MPG while gas has been around 19 MPG. E85 comes out to less per mile at the current price spread.

What I've experienced using E-85 vs. 93 Octane in L-83 engine 2014 Silverado.

Pros: Cheaper (usually 75+ cents per gallon vs 93 octane in Metro Detroit), Very Noticable H.P. Gains, when towing/hauling mpg is the same as premium, injectors seem quieter using E-85

Cons: truck seems to crank an extra long time to start with e-85 in tank (only on cold starts), highway mpg is average 3 to 4 mpg less for me.

You have to be running on a very empty tank when you switch to E-85. It seems like whatever senses the fuel type dosnt respond unless it's running on fumes when you switch over.

In my opinion E-85 is the way to go.

So I had Carl @Lancer auto service add a GM flex fuel sensor to my 2015 Sierra Denali 6.2, tune it, then put on dyno for more refined tuning. I always use premium gas which as of today is on the average of $2.39, but E85 is $1.59 near me, that's .80 cents cheaper per gal. 30% less! So if I get 30% less mileage, I'm still even cost wise and getting a extra 17 more Horsepower and 23 more in Torque. Sounds like a plus, plus in my book!

.

Here you go, this is a 15 GMC 6.2 L86 A6 w/air intake. I was hoping for a stocker but it was as close as I could get.

Stock- 332/383

Tuned - 353/409 picked up 21whp and 26 ft/lbs over stock

Tune E85 - 370/432 Picked up 38whp and 49 ft/lbs over stock

If that's 4 seconds compared to 3 seconds of cold cranking, I can live with that. 20 to 16, that's another story, but I doubt it.

I use it and like it.......good stuff cheap!!

Nice to see the tuning and powerplant configurations getting this additional power outta E85, but I try to avoid putting that in any engine in our family: cars, trucks, boats, chain saws, lawn mowers.

We seek out real gas zero ethanol when/if available, and in every case, any engine purrs like a kitten on it.

Yeah, I'm old skool.

I haven't been using E85 but I noticed the longer cranking times especially in colder mornings down here. It kinda freaked me out at first thinking my starter was messing up or something but reading that article on sandyblog eased my mine. I think I am going to run this tank out (I use at min 89 octane) and start using E85 since there are 2 stations right near me that carry it. It is considerably cheaper than the gas I use.

Ok so I was planning on putting E85 in my truck but apparently you have to have a yellow gas cap.. I thought all 2015's were E85 compatible?? When I run the vin code it says. "Flex Fuel Capability"

I am kind of nervous to put E85 in it if it isn't available. Is there something I can check?

That question has been asked a thousand times with no official answer and speculation is all over the place. It's weird because when the EcoTec3s were first announced, the L86 was flex fuel in the marketing materials (see GM Authority). GM/Chevy has never released any statement to address that.

The tables are in the ECM and simply adding the sensor and enabling the tables you are GTG. I've not heard of anyone that's done this (including C7 LT1) saying their stock fuel system couldn't keep up.

I guess Chevy just wanted to leave some low hanging fruit for hot rodders.

The question is just how much government spending is envoled in making ethanol cheaper?

I have heard it cost more in fossil fuels to manufacture than it yields in ethanol.

That's a different conversation and not in context for this thread. Please make a different thread if you want to have that discussion.

How can allow commits that it's cheaper than? When it's a welfare fuel.

If your not willing to here the biggest con of using the stuff, who do you think you are?
