What's the price per gallon of E85 versus 89 Octane where you live?

Here is the section on my window sticker I was talking about.

If you ideally get 490 miles per tank on gas and 360 miles (about 25% less range) on E85...if the E85 isn't at least 25% cheaper then it isn't cost effective to buy it if you're worried about your MPGs.

You have to do the math, my 2010 is about 15% less on mpg with E85. My Tahoe was about 12%. 25% is a general number

The E85 cost me $3.29 vs 89 octane I believe is about $3.88

That's only 16% cheaper, if gas mileage matters it's not worth it. If you need the extra power though, it's the cheapest way to get it.

I can't tell much of a difference running pure unleaded vs ethanol blended at 10 %. Thought I would have been able to. Main problem with the ethanol blends is that is has short storage life. E85 will dead pretty quick if corn prices stay high and govt pulls back on manufacturing subsidies. Nothing wrong with good ole 87.

For me my baseline is premium which as of this afternoon was $3.99/gal but since this is Michigan it will probably change three times before the weekend is up and E85 has been remarkably steady at $2.99/gal.

This is true, I probably should have been more clear. I was basing what I said off of the vehicle sticker provided.

My '07 Tahoe was in the 12-15% less mpg range so when I was up in Missouri I would switch between gas and E85 depending on which was more cost effective at the time.

Unless your truck is recommended to run on 93 or E85

I only use E85 now. The truck seems to shift so much more aggressivly with E85. Maybe thats just the extra power. It drives the way a truck should drive with E85.

Regular is ok, but definatley feels less powerfull and sluggish shifting.

I get about 14-18mpg with E85 daily commuting. One trip from San Antonio to Tulsa averages 19.2MPg with E85 and a small tail wind. 87Octane on the way back got me around 21Mpg.

I only use E85 but fill with regular when I cant find a E85 station.

PS This is based on the $1.99 price in SA for E85 and $2.40 for 87. A month ago I was paying $1.48 for E85. The cost savings has since reduced but still averages out cheaper per tank.

Where in SA are you buying E85?

There's no debate it makes more power and yes you can notice it and yes it does get worse mileage- I average 16 mixed on 93 and 12 with E85 - 5.3 w/ 3.42 rear and 6 speed tranny.

In my experience these trucks get nowhere near the advertised mileage in real world driving, although I'll point out if you're in the crowd that actually gets close to the sticker mileage than yeah, well you probably wouldn't notice more HP since you're clearly not using the power that it already makes on even 87 octane gas- that's not a knock, it's a statement of fact.

The truck exhibits knock when I ran 87, got crap mileage (compared to 93) and ran like crap in general, 93 very little occasions of knock/pinging, better acceleration, slightly better mileage than 87. e85 to me has much better throttle response, harder pulling especially around town (more torque) and I too feel that shifts are crisper- zero knock or pinging whatsoever on E85, mileage suffers maybe 20-25%
