So....used E85 yet?

Recommended Posts

Yea it was a 1.64 last night when I filled up when we were tuning it. I got 23 gallons for $38, I was pretty happy with that since double coupon at SA is gone now :( .

Best part is if I got extra e85 leftover from racing my car I can now dump it into the truck, and don't have to worry about running out of gas in the truck cuz I usually carry 10 gallons with me to the track, LOL.

I am not sure if you have a Holiday near by, but I have found they typically have the highest Alcohol % in their e85. They accept all coupons now too.

I filled up yesterday at my local Holiday which was $1.459 per gallon. Then I used a .10 coupon and .20 from cub rewards per gallon. So, $1.159 :).

Nice dude! Yea we have them all around Cottage Grove. I use BP for the Trans Am regardless of price as it has tested the highest for me using an e85 tester. I like to stay consistent with the Trans Am with fuel so my AFRs aren't all over the place when i get to the track.

I tested SA last fall at like 65% and I had it my Trans Am and it was soo rich from all the gas content it was crazy!

For the truck it will get the cheapest e85 possible since it can compensate for it, it won't matter what the alcohol percentage is nearly as much.

What did BP test for you? I don't have any close by, but there is one by my work kinda.

Holiday over here is 79%.

Mine v6 is getting around 12, but I have been foot happy. The truck drives completely different. Like it was made to have e85 run though it. Idles smoother and transmission shifts are not happening as much. Not to mention the "go go" feeling when you get on it!

Hi all, I'm a little late to the convo. I just read this whole thread and I have a question when switching from gas to e85. I read that the car will adjust the timing based on the fuel it detects. Does any type of notification come up or light turn on that tells you it detected the e85 (or the change in fuel type for that matter)?

I wanted to wait until I got the first 1000 miles in before I try and make the switch. Of course I'll let it run down as far as I can before adding the new fuel. Just wanted to know if the car tells you it detected the change. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't tell you with a light, but you'll know. I remember exactly when it kicked it. Good times [emoji23]. It does take a few miles, but I was in town and was going through stoplights and the next time I stepped on the gas it was a different truck. I can easily spin wheels now [emoji16]

Since regular has moved up some, E85 is getting into the price spread where it is becoming viable again in my area. Right now regular E10 at around 2.25 in my area and E85 is at $1.59. Just about at the break even point on cost per mile based on the different mpg's for the fuels. Looks like E85 will be going back in the tank soon.

Ha! You said it. It makes driving the truck even more fun and it certainly is a noticeable increase in performance.

I average about 22% less mpg with E85 but it's about 28% cheaper than regular gas, so as long as I can make out and have better performance in the process, it's a no brainer.

I've probably been running E85 for the last 10 tankfuls and will run regular gas again if I have to, but I won't like it.
