Is there any downside to getting the 2.5 kit and doing a front only level? Because it looks phenomenal. My plan is a 2.5" RC kit, Toyo Open Country RT 33X12.5X20, replacement bumpers, and some other things but i love the look of your truck. Also what tint did you get?

I have a 2014, I think he was talking about the brown caps above the strut that go on the strut bolts on the top of the tower

Mine just sit on top. Anyway to clean this up?

I'm looking at Bilstein 5100s or Coilover to level mine out, which i should be able to get 2.5-2.75" in the front and it should be just right. I'll let you know on the RTs it is going to be sometime before i get a new set of tires.

The 295/55/20 toyo mt are 72 pounds each and the 295/55/20 toyo at2 are 60 pounds each, I'm planning on going with the at2 hopefully the 48 pounds less of rolling mass will help with the mpg.

 

From what I can gather, the tread difference between the MT and AT will help you most (going to the AT) for power/fuel required to turn them at constant speed (highway). The weight should help with reducing the power/fuel needed for the acceleration in city driving.

There's a short list of things that are downsides.

  • Lower fuel economy at high speeds (low speeds shouldn't be affected much)
  • some have reported harsher ride (due to the steeper angle of the A-arms)
  • There were many reports of upper ball joint premature wear-outs with this same suspension in the GMT900 when 2.5" levels were installed (over limiting the ball joint angle) I'm sure we'll hear more of this on this model
  • The roll center is lifted and therefore body roll is increased in cornering/evasive maneuvering
  • lower checking account balance due to need for new tires, wheels, upper control arms, bull bars, etc., which all work to lower fuel economy more and lower your checking balance even further

When we did a test fit of the 33x12.5x20 on fuel maverick +14 offset and at lock backing up and turning sharp into a parking spot they had a hard rub. Some other people on here can comment more we pulled them after driving around the parking lot. And to some, people don't care if it rubs or not.

I'll be using my stock wheels don't know if the offset is the same as the fuel wheels u used. Got them ordered already hopefully they fit alright

Stock wheels will not work with 33x12.50x20 . They are a +25 offset that puts the rim deep in the wheel well. You would need a 2 or 3 inch spacer and spacers will have problems down the road. This isn't my experience just what I have read. Maybe someone else can put in some knowledge about oem wheels and 33s. I have seen 295s. But but 33s on oem wheels.

i have a 4 inch lift and have a zero offset i had a set of rims (winter tires on xd rims)off my avalanche which i belive had a 24 offset and rubbed on the control arm could turn!! im running 275 70 18 on worx rims and they just slightly rub on the "carpet fender liners" when doing a sharp turn im going to drill a hole and tie the corner up to stop the rub i had the lift done in edmonton at "capital gmc" before purchase so full warranty . had anyone tried the sierra terrain rims on a 4' lift does anyone know what offset they are im looking for a winter set of rims that arent goin to cost an arm and leg .

Some places give you a higher rate when they think you have no idea what it should cost to do certain things in automotive. This has been a trend and done to female almost all the time.

 

 

Yeap, as soon as the level is done, that is coming off. It looks funny when not level to me i think.

Guys, Hello, I am new here. I have read a lot of the posts regarding the RC 2" leveling kits.

I have '14 Denali 1500 without any suspension mods yet.

I really like the truck but I am not thrilled with the ride on my rough streets. Definitely due to the 20" rims.

Would love to put more rubber between the wheel and the road.

Don't really want to add a lift since I am short and I do use the bed of my truck.

Was thinking of adding the RC 2" leveling kit.

Not sure what that will allow me to get as far a tires.

Really like the Michelin LTX/MS2 tires. Had them on my last truck and they performed nicely.

However, they don't offer a 275/65/20. And I am not sure a 275/60/20 will give me what I am looking for.

Also, not sure the 2" leveling kit will allow me to get those tires anyway.

If I added the RC 2.5" with the lift, that should allow me to go to bigger tires. But that I think will put me too high.

If I did the 2.5" with the lift, I would love to go to a 280/65/20, do they even make that size?

So my question is this, can I get the 275/65/20 to fit if I do the RC 2" level kit?

If not, what do you suggest?

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.
