This was from last weekend. Emptied probably close to 5 oz out (a majority was watery) after only two weeks and 738 miles. I was pretty surprised it had gotten that full in such a short time. I guess those of us in the North need to keep checking it fairly regularly for a bit longer.

I'm getting alot less lately, since the weather has trended 50° warmer than when I first installed it. Lot less moisture in mine - it's almost 100% oil now.

 

Went on a 330 mile round trip journey to the mountains of NY, towing a '85 K10 diesel with a K20/30 driveline in it, and a plow in the bed. She was working hard on some of those long hills - had the tranny up over 210° for a bit at 60° ambient. Only had maybe an ounce or 2 of dark brown oil in the can - I cleaned about 3 oz out before the trip. That was about 1k miles worth.

This may be a dumb question, but what did you use to cap the other other intake fitting?

 

I plugged the 2nd fitting on my cold air intake tube with a rubber cap I bought at Napa. It's called a heater hose by pass cap: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Heater-Hose-By-Pass-Cap-5-8-EPDM/_/R-NDP6601696_0375752050

 

It fit snugly over the barbed fitting and appears to be doing the job.

Keep an eye on that plug - I've been having a batches of them that dryrot and crack under the heat of the hood in just a couple months time.

 

I've got a few of them plugging ports on the carburetor on a '00 4.3 in our '89 S-10 Blazer - I have to constantly watch them. That engine does like to run real hot though, so that may be part of it.

I agree. I have an 86 F-150 (dont shune me) that has a few vaccum lines etc capped off and when I used to drive it as my daily driver it was a yearly ritual to replace the rubber caps.

Thanks for the good advice. Do you suppose a little silicon spray would keep them pliable longer?

Just guessing...I'll bet they're made in China. I had some tires replaced at a local store years ago. I was driving one day and the tire just went flat at highway speed. It trashed the tire. I chalked it up to a fluke. Weeks later, another. The tire store couldn't find a hole in the tire. Then another. 3 tires. I looked at the valve stems on the last two. They were separated at that groove where the wheel seals. I pushed on the remaining stem, from that tire change, gently. It leaked. All were marked "China". Ever since then, I buy GM stems from the dealer or online and bring them with me to the tire shops. No more Chinese valve stems.

Yep you nailed it. But lots of products from there are hit or miss ...

 

As far as stems go, some are better than others. I've been using ones I bought in bulk off eBay (assuming they're chinese) on a few of my vehicles and neighbor's. The ones on our Marquis are 5 years old this year, and are still holding up. This vehicle is garaged and never sees winter, though.

 

I've got a chinese wheel balancer I bought from Greg Smith Equipment. They seem to have found good vendors they can trust there. I haven't had an issue with any of their products - in addition to the balancer, I bought a large 2-piece tool box, & a motorcycle lift there. So far so good with all of it.

 

Then there's the chinese bumper I bought for our '89 S10 Blazer off eBay, after the wife cranked a guardrail this winter. That got sent right back - had more rust than the 26 year old OEM it was supposed to replace! I ended up banging it back with a sledgehammer and just running it dents, cracks and all.

 

Bought chinese CV axles for my Polaris Sportsman 800 - got 210 miles out of them when one outer CV broke in 2, and the opposite side twisted (ready to break). Also bought a radiator for the same machine - thing was as strong as lead solder! Was all bent when it arrived. They told me to keep it and refunded my money! LOL - goes to show ya ...

Yeah I think anything is better than nothing with those. Certainly can't hurt.

Well, finally got my catch can installed. here's my write up on it. My truck has 15,500 miles on it currently.

 

Basically i followed the video RX Performance has for it, located here:

 

 

The disassemble was easy. the hardest part was finding a mounting location. i was trying to keep the can as far away from the engine as i could, wanting to keep the can as cool as i could under the assumption that the cooler temp would help the oil condense faster and catch more oil.

 

During disassembly i chose to remove the throttle body as well and check it out. as you can see, it was already getting plenty of buildup on it.

After the throttle body was off, i did my best to wipe out the intake as best as i could. got about 3 out that looked like this. including some that had actual wet oil on them. guess it was a needed addition...

Ended up mounting my can to the front of the radiator mount. seemed like a good place with easy access to the can for emptying.

Sorry, forgot to take a picture of the PCV plug i disconnected but it was really simple once i had the airbox removed.

 

I have the clean side separator and will put it on soon, however, the kit i got did not have the larger hose needed to connect the two valve covers together.

 

I'll update once i have some miles on this to show what i've collected.

Did you fab that bracket yourself to mount the can to the radiator mount or does RX offer a newer bracket now? And is that a Monster Can? I noticed the three ports on the top.

No, i didn't fab that bracket. that;s what came with my kit. that bracket didn't look like the one in the videos or other posts so my hardest time with installation for figuring out where to put that bracket. i can get a better shot of the bracket if you want one.

I was mainly curious if RX re-designed the bracket or not. Did you order from them direct?

No, i ordered mine through Jegs. My kit was $319 to my door, came with the can, most hoses (missing the 1/2" hose for the valve cover crossover), the clean side separator and that bracket.

    • Some clarification may help with some of these issues.   - Rev Industries is/was the division of BAK (now Realtruck) that makes covers under the OEM names.  So if you see one with a Ford logo on it, or if you are buying the GM Accessories cover, you are essentially buying a BAK G2 cover with different branding.   - Rev Industries now markets under RealTruck "Advantage."   - As of May 1, 2025, the Advantage covers now have a 5 year warranty.  Anything before that was a 36/36K warranty.   - Parts for the covers are available from Realtruck or BAK.  The email address to reach them is [email protected] or you can call them at 818-365-9000   - If the entire cover has to be replaced, you have to go through your local GM dealer.  Service dept opens an RO, notes the damage and submits it as a warranty claim.  Keep your paperwork handy so they can confirm when you purchased it and it's within the warranty timeframe.  Once the warranty claim is approved, Parts orders the replacement cover.  When it arrives at the dealership, service will remove and install the new one for free as labor is included under warranty.   - The Advantage covers are not the latest and greatest Gen 3 covers.  They still use the old school clamps, elevator bolts, etc...If you want the newer technology, consider buying your cover in the aftermarket world.  That way, if you have an issue you can deal directly with the manufacturer.   - Finally, RealTruck has a program with many of their authorized dealers that doubles the warranty to 10 years if the authorized dealer does the install.     Hope this helps.
    • Welcome to the group!  My '22 just crossed 150K miles.  Runs perfectly.  Oil pump belt will be done in the next 30 days or so and onward hopefully for another 150K.  Love the truck.

    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!  
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!
