Child Seats in Double Cab

I have the 2014 double cab. You should be able to put a car seat in the back seat with no problem. Even when your child is out of car seat, they would have enough room for years to come or until they reach 6ft. I was in the same situation as you, wanted the longer bed, but didn't want the crew cab with longer bed. Check out at dealer, that way you can see it first hand.

I just got a 15 double cab. Wanted crew but incentives on the double just made it a much better deal at the time. Found out we have one on the way so hopefully everything fits fine haha

Bought my 14 double cab thinking it was big enough with a little one months away. Man I truly wish I got a crew. The car seat only fits in the middle and it's a real PITA, and I mean it barely fits. Honestly those car seats are bigger then you'd think, and once the child is in a booster seat the double cab would suffice but not really with a new born. Plus no one can even really fit back there wothout being cramped with that big car seat in the middle. I'll post some pics if you would like...

 

Edited to answer question...Yes the double cab does have latch system but only on the side seats and if you use a car seat on the side then no one can sit in the front.

When we started looking at trucks, we took the kids with us. We stuck their car seats (And bases) in the back seats to see how much room we had. We went with a crew. I don't know how you could get by with a double cab. You might end up having to move one of the seats forward to get them to fit. They need to be rear-facing for the first year or two (or more depending on your safety concern level) and that takes up more space than you think., Borrow a friend's car seat and base and go to the dealer ad see for yourself.

Yup i went to get a 14 DC good thing we brought the car seat with us ... it was easy to see it wasn't going to work.. so then found a CC i think it would've work with a child 18+ months but there would be no room for someone settings up front.

I have a 15 sierra DC with 3 kids ages 11,8 and 7 and they have plenty of room. I had to have a regular size bed and the CC with 6.5 bed was like a bus to me. The DC is perfect for my needs and I feel personally it has a more sporty look. Car seat maybe a little tight though, I'm sure it will do if I had to use one. Just remember though babies will be in a car seat for quite awhile. My wife drives an Acadia so we have a larger vehicle to accomodate more room if needed. Good Luck

Hi guys, I've been in the market for a 1/2 ton pickup for the last few months and lurking on here for a while, and part of that search has been trying to future proof it for family needs.

 

I'm planning on getting married soon and hopefully having a child, so I really want to make sure I get a pickup that isn't going to require me to switch trucks when the time comes. I'm interested in the Double Cab sierras because I'm not a fan of a 5 1/2 foot box on the crew max (the 6 1/2 on a crew is just too big for me)... my question was if any of you guys out there have a double cab and utilize baby seats for the back seats? I was wondering how difficult it has been for you to get it in and out, or if it's even doable? Do the Double Cabs have a Latch system as well? I spaced out checking last time i made the trip to the dealership. Also, since I'm also considering an F-150 Extended Cab w/ suicide doors, wondering if you guys had any experience on which would be easier for a baby seat? The smaller Double Cab doors of the Sierra, or the rear hinged Suicide doors like on the F-150 (and previous gen Sierras)? Any input you guys would have would be great! Thanks again in advance.

I bought a 14 a year ago had my son 6 months ago. basically did the same thing you did. Its more than enough room, would a crew cab be more ideal, probably. A young child has to sit reverse in a car seat so when they sit reverse the car seat has to go in the middle of the back seat to fit or you have to move the passenger front seat all the way up to get a car seat on right side of the back seat. I have put the front facing car seat in the truck to test it, and it works fine. Both front and rear facing seats are easy to get in and out. But with the double door option that GM has and Ram has I WOULD NOT BUY A TRUCK WITH SUICIDE doors. Not only is having a dedicated door better the back is a little bigger as well.

 

Smart to future buy a lot fail to do so. I wouldnt get to far ahead though. Do a timeline on getting married, getting pregnant, full term of pregantcy, recovery, deciding to have more kids. You could be talking a solid year just to kid one if you started today, and at least 2 maybe 3 for kid three.

 

With that said I leased this truck, next go around I will probably heavly look for a crew cab. But it depends the wife usually has a more fuel friendly vehicle which we try and drive more anyways, so what she has the next go around will be a driver in what I get. Lots of guys in here fail to see and understand a budget. Sometimes you have to buy what you can afford and make it work, vs buying what you want and really cant afford, which I have a sneaking suspicion these days people buy vehicles they really cant afford. Will the double cab be the best option, maybe not, will it work yes. personally I would rather have a new truck in my budget say a double cab and make it work, vs buy something I cant afford or have to resort to something thats at least 3 years old in a crew cab to fit my budget.

my kids (6 and 3) are in booster seats now and can kick the back of my front seats in my crew cab, so I put some seatback protectors on them. I do miss the bigger rear area in my old F150 crew cab. I can't imagine having a double cab with multiple kids, unless you're short and drive with the front seats moved forward alot. Car seats are huge these days.

I bought a crew cab knowing kids were in the near future for the Mrs. and I. I had an extended cab in my 2007 and honestly the back seat was only really useful for storing crap. It's not great for hauling people or infants. Once the kids are older it wouldn't be bad but with the car seat, diaper bags, etc., it's really not enough room.

I agree 100% I just got out of an ext cab into a crew...honestly have no idea how I did the ext cab...we looked at a DC and there was no way I was going to mess with it..i honestly can see us going back to a DC once the kid can get out of the car seat and/or booster but right now we both love the CC

dc with car seats pictures in 2014+ would be nice to see. I wanted a dc but are seat wasn't going in there with me the wife or anyone sitting up front... take your car seat (base too) with you and try there was no way ours was going 2 fit. Once my kids are over 7 ill get a dc. But 4 my family this is are nicer car/truck so we take it every where

Car seat fit fine in my regular cab when I need one. She is 11 now.

Wife sat in center, car seat in passenger. Truck didn't have air bags.

 

Remember when all they made was regular cabs?

I went from a 3-door ext cab to a CC with 6.5' bed. There was no other option I was going to look at. Well, Ram being 2nd choice (behind Chevy/GMC) and then Ford. I knew I wanted a crew cab with the 2 kids and I definitely wanted the 6.5' bed. Once when my truck was having some maintenance and recall work done, they gave me a 2013 ext cab. Though the doors fold flat against the bed, it was a PITA for the car seat. Only advantage it had over my 3-door was, well, the 4th door on the drivers' side.

 

I may get another DC down the road, but I don't see that for quite some time.
