MyLink and the I phone 5 Issues with Favorites

Just returned from the dealer with my 2014 Silverado LTZ with 200 miles on it and I am waiting to hear from Chevrolet on a problem I have and I know all of you with I phone 5's will also have if you don't know this already. Here Goes: I have an I phone 5 with recent Apple updates completed. I paired phone as I left the lot when i purchased two weeks ago. I added phone # favorites and they all showed up on the buttons on the Nav screen and work fine. I checked the DIC, (driver info center) above the steering wheel and they all showed up there and worked fine, UNTIL, i shut the vehicle off and came back a few minutes later. When I tried to access the phone favorites via the DIC they all were greyed out except the last entry which was the only one able to be used/called. The favorites on the Nav screen worked fine and voice recognition works fine. The only issue is if you try to access your phone favorites from the DIC, you will see all your favorites there but only can use the last one entered. We tried an I phone 4 in the service department and it was not a problem. We tried a different I phone 5 as well as mine on a different 2014 Silverado on the showroom floor and it also had the same problem mine did. SO the issue is with I phone 5's, not sure about 5S's. The tech guru at the dealership had Chevy on the line and this is the first time it has come up so there is an open case with this. All the codes check out fine and everything else works. I just want to pull my phone favorites up from the DIC and make a call without having to remove my hands from the wheel and use the nav screen or voice recognition. If you haven't tried this yet see if you also have the same problem. Very frustrating as I chose this vehicle over a 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition. My Honda Pilot and 2010 Toyota 4 Runner never saw a dealership after I bought them except for an oil change. Their systems were extremely intuitive and worked without needing a programmer to help get it set up. I hope this was not a mistake because i do like the truck and spent a lot of money on it. Anyone else experiencing this? Give it a try.

My guess is there will be issues with phones and functions until phone apps are written by Apple and Google for MyLink. Every time a new operating system is introduced you have the risk of issues. Your 5s has IOS 7.

I have a 2010 Lexus and have had issues with IPOD/ IPhone 4S-more with music but even naming my phone caused an issue. Deleting the phone leaves traces of the phone so pairing again may not work. Lexus Nav/Audio system didn't work with the iPod 5 for 3 years...Lexus position was that its not a supported device even though a year old at the time. Upgraded Lexus firmware to 2013 finally can use iPod 5 but I had to be very demanding-firmware upgrades are not offered. My point is that Toyota has support issues too and they make few if any "running changes" unrelated to safety.

Hi Ron,

You are correct. I was not able to try my phone with the Toyota as I was unable to find one within 250 miles. I will say that my 2013 Honda Pilot Touring (which I traded) had zero issues with the favorites or any other problem and it is the same phone. I did however even go as far as installing the previous version before the 7.0. I actually have an I phone 5. Not a new 5S. The I phone 4 worked fine and everything else works with my phone but the one issue. One would think though that someone at GM would have tried all the functions but probably never shut it down and re-connected to duplicate the problem. I was told by the dealer that a software update may come out by the end of the month that could address the problem but it was more generic in nature. Stand by.

You've tried deleting out the phone from mylink and relinking it yes?

I tried it about a half dozen times. It is a minor thing but I just don't understand how it can show them all but only allow the last entry made to be dialed from the DIC. Love my new truck but this will become a larger issue as more 2014's come out and I am sure a few people have the I-phone 5. Would be curious if anyone has the same phone and is experiencing the same issue. Two 2014 vehicles, mine and one on the showroom floor had the same issue.

Well I have an iPhone 5, but am still on iOS 6. I'll stay on iOS 6 then if its that much of an issue.

Can you add phone numbers as a favorite with a droid? I have a gmc and can not get phone numbers to store as a favorite.

I own a 2014 Sierra and an iphone 5 and not sure if that's possible at all to add phone number as favorites. All I can see in the DIC is the list of my phone contacts from A-Z

What bother me even more is the fact I can't use Pandora via Bluetooth, I heard it is some kind of a limitation of the iphone as android phone can

If you use the right arrow on the steering wheel control it should bring up the favorites. You would save them by using the nav screen and pulling up the presets and pressing and holding the button and then choosing the number. That way those frequently called numbers are easily accessible without having to go through the whole contacts list.

Pulling up the presets?? If I'm on the Phone tab all I see on the bottom is Voice, Contacts, Recents, Keypad, Voice Mail and Phones.

Favorites is greyed out btw

I had a similar issue with my favorite radio stations sometimes disappearing from the DIC but still being there on the center screen. It usually fixed itself by shutting the vehicle off for about 5 minutes and trying again. There is also a BCM update available that might help, so if you haven't done that I would certainly give it a try. Will be interesting to see how this turns out. Good luck.

Thanks Dan. I was told about that update from the dealership but it is supposed to be replaced with a new update that closely resembles the other by the end of November. I will post when I get the update. Hopefully it will actually happen.

Shahar, the reason your favorites are greyed out is because you don't have any set on your presets. Pull up a contact and highlight it, then if you are at that screen you can "pull" up the presets from that location by pressing and holding the middle area between contacts and recents, (it is the middle), swipe it up kind of like an i pad and your presets will come up. If you then hold one down and choose the contact you highlighted it will add it to your DIC. Although if your I phone 5 does what mine and others are doing you see them all greyed out except the last one as i mentioned in the beginning of this topic after you shut it off and come back a few minutes later.

Was playing around and I just realized now my favorites dont show either. I thought you meant the recent calls for some reason, which mine shows, and also mine shows contacts.

But favorites is greyed out. Doesn't really bother me though...but I guess if an update comes available I would take it.

YOU ARE KIDDING ME! I didn't know you can do that. Pull up between the icons and the favorites are revealed!! Awesome!! I guess every day you learn something new! Lol.

Added two favorites. So far so good. Lets see what happens next. Will try it through the day
