Remote Start / Heated Seats Issues

2014 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab Z71 4x4 with heated and cooled seats. Problem Heated seats do not seem to heat up when remote starting the truck even after 2 full 10 minute cycles.

I have done a couple of experiments and would ask that you guys do the same and please post your results so we can compare notes.

"Obviously first step is too verify that your heated seats are set to come on when remote starting that is a given here"

Experiment NO1 Start the truck with remote start and sit your butt down in the seat for the full 10 minute remote start cycle without putting the key in the ignition and check for warm seat temp. Mine absolutely heated up when sitting in the seat on remote start it takes a few minutes but it works. No need to remote start and NOT sit in the seat since we have all figured out at this point that the seats do NOT heat without someone sitting in the dang thing. I believe that is why we are having this discussion.

Experiment NO2 Start the truck without sitting in the seat and set the heated seats to high setting go drink coffee etc and come back after approx 10 minutes and check seat temperature. Mine did not heat up hardly at all to the touch without someone sitting in the seat just like in remote start but when you do this you know they are on since the heated seats indicator lights are on. Funny that it does not light up in remote start mode.

Please post and let everyone know what your results are. .

My conclusion so far from my limited experimentation is that there has been a major redesign from the older heated seats and this new design just plain STINKs LOL. Probably has a lot to do with the seats being a Cooled seat system also. The leather cover appears to have perforations plus it feels like some spacing between the outside cover and the solid part underneath which probably contains the heat coils. I sure am going to miss those hot seats in the cold mornings in my old 2009 truck if this turns out to be NORMAL for a 2014 GM vehicle. Maybe mine are Broken I do not know???

I am shocked.

Naw not shocking that is practical I think.

Now in remote start both seats driver and passenger are in high heat mode (supposedly) now when you start the truck with the key both cut off and you turn the one you want back on to the setting that you prefer. You would not want the passenger seat staying on all the time like that especially since you would have to reach way across the center console to turn it off every time if you did not have some hot blonde chick riding with you or something.....

Does anyone have the non-perforated seats (AC seats) if so does the heated seats heat up better?

Was that a typo? The heated+cooled seats have perforated leather.

Yes but they are not like big perforations they are tiny and almost imperceptible. Best I can tell anyway. I may have to drive up to GM engineering headquarters and get this straightened out once and for all. Hmm or maybe we can find out who the outside supplier is for the seat assemblies and sneak into their plant and get the scoop? Now you know that there has been extensive testing on these assemblies they do not just build them and throw them in the trucks DO THEY? Where are my test results???

Sorry Typo, I thought I deleted the (AC seats) part.. I meant to ask if anyone has the non-perforated seats and if so do they warm up quicker. I have the AC seats and mine warm up like crap I tested other like trucks but non without the ax option.

I haven't done any testing, only my own observations here, but I've noticed that if I don't remote start the truck on a cold day the seats are "so cold its painful" cold. When I remote start (and yes I have the heated seats on remote start option set to on) the seats are still cold/cool but they aren't painfully cold. Maybe the cabin temps warming up a bit causes the seats to not be quite as cold, but it's pretty consistent that the seats, while not *warm* by any stretch, are at least "warmed" a bit when compared to not doing a remote start at all.

Just thought i would let you know it is actually a little fan motor that works like a hair drier. when heat is on the element heats up and blow air through it. ac seats do not have a heat pad. when my seat covers get back from getting repaired for my install i can show you pictures if you would like.

i wonder if you could trick the bladder sensor to thinking some one was actually in the seat at all times.

For those that have Heated/Cooled seats, check your heated seat bottom to see if it working properly..

Mine didn't and one of the high country at the dealership have the same problem.

The back is burning hot, but the bottom is dead cold... "Both driver and passenger" . They are also look into the remote starter with heated seat issue and hopefully they can get the answer from Gm tomorrow..

The bottom on mine doesn't seem to get as hot as it should. I just have heated seats though

More than likely, most of your heated seats are working during remote start, but they are not cranked to the high setting. To verify this - after getting in your truck when it's been remote started, feel the passenger seat (if no one is in it), then reach back and feel the seats in the back (for you double cab or crew cab owners). You'll notice the rear seats are a lot colder to the touch than your passenger seat. They are on, just not on a high setting. It would be much nicerif they were set to come on at max setting during remote start... maybe a software update in the future GM, please?

I seriously believe that they do come on in the high setting in remote start (I did the sit test in remote start and they warmed up nicely just like when inserting the key and turning them to high setting).. Whatever they changed on these new seat systems makes them simply INEFFECTIVE until you sit in the seat.... That big check I wrote just did not buy what I thought it did. hzhardy dang nice avatar boy very impressive..wait I think I know her????????
