I think it's basically the same thing, your shock probably came with a shorter spring to lower the front, and I just replaced the spring on my stock shocks. I have no complaints about the ride on the front of my truck, I wish I could soften the rear up a bit more though. I started with just shock extenders, and now went with belltech shocks. It's better, but it's still stiffer than I'd like.

Yes I agree, I used belltech street performance rear shocks at first then I also find it a bit stiffer, my thinking is maybe because of the lighter RCSB body, so I replaced it with nitro. I am liking it now so far.

Installing my Maxtrac kit this weekend. Pretty excited. As much as I want to go 4/6 I think I'll leave it at 3/5 for now. I have heard and agree off experience of the Belltech shocks still being rough. I think this time I'll make the jump to dual adjustable Vikings for the rear.

Following up on this discussion so I am sure I understand.  I used a drop spindle in the front for a 2" drop and have a 4.5" drop in the rear with a IHC kit shocks.  I am looking to improve the ride as I think it used to be better.  I don't know much about shocks, springs or struts other than what I have read on this thread.  Replacing the rear shock sounds like it would help.  The Nitro shocks you mentioned - where did you get them?  I also see people mention Vikings adjustable shocks.  Searching via Google gives way to many options with almost no explanations for these two spring types.  Anyone with links on what they bought and are happy with for lowered shocks is appreciated.

Does the using a drop spindle with the stock shocks/struts/springs impact the ride?  In the rear using a shock for the lowered condition or a shock extender is a must otherwise the shock travel distance is already impacted and the ride suffers.  Is that the case in the front when using a drop spindle?  Obviously not much of a gear head but I am trying to learn and I haven't had much luck looking randomly through the internet.  Any recommendations on how to improve the ride is appreciated.

Stock struts will be stiffer than belltech or mcg

Also incase you didnt know, IHC shocks are re stickered procomp shocks. Which we all know are cheap and very stiff

types of shocks that I have tried, Belltech Street Performance shocks and Belltech Nitro shocks. At first, I installed the Street Performance coz these come with the kit. But I find it a bit stiffer for my liking, so I was browsing around and came across a video posted by Reklez, and they said Nitro Shocks fits better to Reg Cabs(due to its lighter weight). I felt like night and day difference.

So so yesterday I bought some 2x4x8 lumber. 30 pcs. Loaded it in the truck. Man, the ride was great. I was thinking, if a lowered Crew Cabuses these shocks, I am really curious what will be the ride.

Does using Belltech or McG struts lower the truck any further?  Can those be used with the original stock shocks or do the shocks need to be upgraded to get the benefit of those struts?  If I keep the stock struts does replacing the shocks matter?

On the rear shocks it sounds like Belltech Nitro are a better option than what I have.  I hear Viking are good as well and found the rear adjustable on the Twisted Metal Workz site for $360 which seems reasonable.  Which would you say is the better choice?

I appreciate your sharing your knowledge on these things.

The mcg and belltech struts are for the front and they are adjustable. I'm not sure what you're asking

I'll try to be clearer.  Speaking only about the front shocks, if I leave my stock front shocks and replace the stock struts with Belltech or McG struts, will my ride improve?  Or do I need to replace both the struts and the front shocks?

Our trucks have struts up front and shocks in the rear. Mcgaughys and Belltech both have adjustable struts so you can raise or lower the front...

Got it.  So the front are struts not shocks.  That explains the confusion on my part.  Does using adjustable struts to lower the front of the truck instead of a drop spindle provide for a better ride?

I think I was confusing a strut with a coilover.  Does replacing a strut without replacing the coilover impact the ride?  In other words if I replace the stock struts with an adjustable strut should I also change out the coilover?  Are stock struts with a drop spindle a bad combination?  I was fine with the stock struts before I put in the drop spindle but after installing the drop spindle the ride seems to have become more harsh over time.

I'm no pro like Nasty but in my truck I used both spindles and adjustable struts. The spindles are good for about 2 inches, I'm at 3 up front so the struts gave me the extra inch I was looking for

I really appreciate your helping me.  How is your ride?  Would you say it was as smooth as stock or better/worse?

I'd say smooth as stock, only issue I have is I rub the liner a tad bit backing up but besides that no other issue. I'm looking at getting the Twisted Metal Workz upper control arms to correct that though

I just got a pair of the Twisted Metal Workz UCA's delivered.  Take the truck in next week to get them installed.  I only have drop spindles but the wheels sit quite a bit back in the wheel well and my 22's rub and most turns.  I can't wait to get rid of that problem.  Part of the reason i was think about the struts and shocks was thinking about getting all of the work done at the same time.  Thanks again.

    • Hi all,   I just bought a 2021 suburban RST with 88,000 miles on it and everything has been good but I’ve been noticing within the last month or so that there are small electrical things going on and I know what the AGM batteries and all the electric electrical in these big trucks you need to have a constant flow with good voltage   That being said, I bought a new battery thinking that that might have something to do with it but today I went to get in and start it and it said no key found when I had the key right in my pocket   It also proceeded to flash the lights inside and outside for over 30 minutes as I went to disconnect the battery as soon as I touch the negative terminal, I heard the relay reset and everything come back up. I got in the truck and started it no problem.   Anyone else have this happen to them? I’m starting to think it’s the KARR system that the dealer installed short circuit stuff.
    • I don't drive this truck on a regular basis since I have a new company truck with no out of pocket fuel or maintenance cost. Yesterday I got it out to run some errands and got the title message on my DCI. A quick Google search suggested to first clean the Map Sensor. I pulled it out and it was sooty so cleaned it up and reinstalled it. Issue not resolved. My OBDII is a couple years old so didn't see any codes. Today I took it to a friend at AutoZone to get him to check it with his reader. It had the following codes: P20C3 P02BB P221F Stating the most likely solution is to replace diesel emission fluid (DEF) tank assembly.   So, I guess a trip to the dealer is necessary. I read where there was a backorder on these tank assemblies several years ago so hope that has been resolved.
    • Are you using a weight distribution hitch system with your trailer as that alone can change the actual tire pressure requirements needed. It would prove interesting to see what the actual individual axle weights are on your truck when you are hooked up to the trailer. In fact when your hooked to the trailer, typically if anything unless it has a large capacity weight distribution system that is over cranked, often the weight on the front axle will be less when hooked up vs driving empty and certainly if one doesn't have a weight distribution hitch. Really the only times one may get up there with weight on the steer axle is if there was a snow plow mounted on the front or a motorcycle on a rack or with a very large jockey tank full of fuel at the front of the box that transfers a bit of its weight to the front axle.    And of course your tires carry more weight for a given tire pressure due to their size vs a stock sized tire so there is that to take into the equation as well.
    • Great info here thank you. I just joined, we have a 2014 Silverado truck we bought about 4 years ago with less than 5,000 miles on it. It has approximately 24,000 on it now. It appears to have all the standard issues that people are talking about. Occasional charging problems especially using 110 volt, occasional blinking triangle where nothing will turn on when first starting the truck but it will reset itself if you wait 10 to 15 minutes. Noisy coupler between the flywheel and the generator. Our truck is speed limited to 74 mph, is there any way to change that? The latest issue we have been dealing with is when driving long distance on the highway at full speed the generator does not keep the batteries charged. The meter will go into the yellow/red border Zone for charge status and the yellow triangle will illuminate solid but the generator will not keep the battery charged, not sure why the controller doesn't tell the gas engine to increase RPM to increase generator output it usually stays well below 25 kilowatts even though the battery is discharging and I have to slow down the highway to 45 mph and eventually pull over and let the truck idle to charge the battery so I can continue driving at speed. Has anyone had this issue before or have any idea how to diagnosed it? When via Motors was around it they were very helpful at troubleshooting. This becomes much if the Terrain is hilly and you're towing a small trailer
    • I have the GMC accessory (REV) cover installed by dealer. Ordered with the truck.  They did a very good install job, can't find a single issue. Some water gets in around the tailgate but no where else.  You can see daylight around the tailgate but that's not the covers fault.  Installation is means everything. Guys at my dealer were seasoned pros, not inexperienced here today good tomorrow types, like many dealers employ for these jobs.   I don't mind paying for a professional job.
