on the other note, how did you install/tighten the provided bump stop? No access  to reach the nut...Lol

 

I didn't have to use the transmission spacer, I threw it in the glove box just in case though 

 

For the bumpstops, you drill a 5/16'' hole in the frame and use a 3/8-16 tap to make some threads. I just put a dab of red loctite on the bump stop and screwed it into the frame by hand as tight as I could get it.

I got a belltech bump stop that has a nut and bolt. I used a #10 self tapping steel screw :)

yeah, some kits come with the self tapper type, mine came with the screw in style.  It came with nuts too but there's no way to get them on there.

So I did my drop last year right after I bought the truck. 2017 5.3L 2wd. I went with the McGaughys kit. I set the front at 5" of drop. The back I did the axle flip, and used their new hanger on the highest setting(for the most drop). Went with 4' angle shims on the rear to set the driveline correctly, and had to have the driveshaft shortened. Handles and drives beautifully. Currently running their supplied rear shocks as well(pretty happy with them actually). 

 

My question is, comparing my truck to pictures of trucks with the same setup, it looks like I'm missing another 1" of drop in the rear? At first I liked the look of the raked stance, but now I'm wanting the back down lower. Am I missing something here?

I am also running bigger tires in the rear now, that isnt shown in those pictures. Nitto 305/40/22 currently, was running 285/40/22. So it raised it up a touch as well.

Sorry, looks like after reading back through this thread, if I wanted even a lower drop in the back, I should have stayed with my stock hangers. I'm wondering if a shackle will get me my 1'' I'm looking for. Anyone run that kind of setup?

since my shackle is running pretty much vertical, I would need an 1" shorter shackle to achieve what I want. Which brings us into the lowering/lift shackle debate after flipping. I think the lowering shackle would actually cause lift in this application.

 

I think this is what I'm looking for? Since I'm running the lift hanger from McGaughys. The other "lowering shackles" out on the market look to be much longer, which would cause lift.

You're at 5 right now? With stock shackle? How is your hanger set?

To clear everything up:

If you have used McGuaghys flip kit, with lift hanger, then you need shorter(lift) shackles to achieve a drop in suspension. Like in this link:

If you have not used a rear flip kit, then you would need a longer(lowering) shackle to achieve a drop in suspension. Like in this link:

Lift shackle is to short. I had one. Horrible ride. Not enough movement

I used McGuaghys flip kit, with their lift hanger, and stock shackles. Lift hanger set to the highest setting(for most drop). This is supposed to achieve 6" of drop.

 

If I would have kept my stock hangers, then I would have yielded 7" of drop.

 

So now, Im going with McGuaghys shackle designed for their flip kit with lift hanger for another 1" of drop, putting me down to 7". Which would be opposite of what you would need to lower, if you havent done a flip and lift hanger

Really? Damn! Did it feel like not allowing the springs to move or something? Like a harsher ride?

    • With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece. 
    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death. 
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them.
