Active decent control

I do not have the Z71 option but have had this message displayed twice while coasting down a reasonably steep grade while in drive.Just wondering if its hold back shift programing built into these new trucks.I have only noticed it twice as I live in the mountains and it does not do it often.Next time it comes up I'm going to tap the brakes to see if it down shifts like my duramax did.

ya i have a 1WT and when i got that message the first time I yelled out " COOl! " because i didnt know my truck had it lol

This is different than hill decent on the Z71. This just downshifts to use engine braking. Hill decent will actually hold a set speed.

It's called grade braking. It uses the transmission and engine speed to assist with slowing down the vehicle.

and I hate it.... still can't get used to the grade braking. And seems to not change when I turn it off...

i dont live in the mountains but ive driven on a few but it's been a while. dont you only really need the grade braking when the truck is pulling a decently loaded trailer. on my buddy's 07 cummins he had the turbo brake but that was turned on/off by a button.

It not only assists you when towing but, if you have the cruise set at a certain speed it will only let it get around 5 mph over that speed. At least that is what I have seen in my truck so far.

Yup your right both times I had a trailer on when it came on.

I've had it come on several times and I've never had a trailer hooked up
