They only make one size now. For the Double Cab you have to cut them to size, so for the RC, just trim more. Or leave them longer to act as a bed side step.

Thanks. Do you think they would be strong enough to use as a side step on regular cabs and would there be the proper mounting area on the truck (mount around the bed) to make it work?

 

Has anyone try to install one on a regular pickup? Any problems cutting it down or using it as a side step as well?

I guess you'd have to crawl under there and look at the mount points. Or take some pics and put them up. As for the leaving them long idea, I'm not sure if there is clearance under that portion of the bed or if they line up. I have seen RC with amp steps on other forums. All depends on possible mount locations underneath I guess.

I've had good experience talking to AMP customer service. Why not reach out to them via their web site and ask?

N-Fab bed access steps and I love them. Much more sturdy than the Weston tube steps I had on my old truck.

Also not really a big fan of auto steps. Sure they look cool when they lower, but regular steps give rocker protection. Especially when it's not lifted. Plus auto steps is just 1 more electrical thing that can mess up and then you won't have a step or it will stick in the lowered position. There's already enough sensors and electrical in this truck lol. Same reason why I went for the one piece rear window since for the past few years the rear sliding window was power instead of manual.

Plus auto steps is just 1 more electrical thing that can mess up and then you won't have a step or it will stick in the lowered position. There's already enough sensors and electrical in this truck lol. Same reason why I went for the one piece rear window since for the past few years the rear sliding window was power instead of manual.

 

Although, even when the boards are retracted, they still provide some protection of the rocker panels, from the bottom anyway. As much as a steel tube? don't know, but the internal baffle design in the aluminum steps is definitely strong. But yes, 1 more electrical thing to worry over, but so far AMP has had amazing customer service and I wouldn't hesitate to think they wouldn't replace anything if it went out. It's all personal preference though.

Oh I've heard nothing but good things about AMP so if I ever did get a set of auto steps it would be them, just not for me I guess. It wouldn't be a bad thing for a stock lift truck like mine though. But, I also have 0 patients and I see myself getting mad at the steps for not lowering quick enough lol. I don't use them for getting into the truck, but I ise mine because it's bed access so I'm about to get into my toolbox without climbing into the bed. I don't think I've seen a bed access auto step yet.

 

I know I won't get the big 3+" tube steps like I had on my 98. Even though the Westons did tuck closer to the body than I've seen with other brands I've also seen those tubes dented and bent pretty easily. I can tell if anything breaks on the N-fabs it will be the brackets or welds.

You make some very good reason why not to get it especially when it is not made for a regular pickup.

Like I said, it's just not something I would do. Not saying it's stupid or doesn't make sense. I know AMP is a good company and haven't heard a bad thing about them yet. The other reason I went with regular steps is because I actually wanted steps that helped me reach into my toolbox. I don't need steps (yet lol) to get into the cab, just to reach into the toolbox without having to climb into the bed. Also other people do use them to get into the truck so it's not just for me. I also have yet to see AMP with auto steps that extend to the rear wheel like bed access steps to help reach into the bed or toolbox.
