Yessir got that and the tires done. Always nervous about all the gaps lining up but turned out great.

I didn't realize AJT Designs is up in Traverse City, MI. Decided I had to go and support another brother from the mitten. Glad I did because this key fob is sweet and very high quality! New battery too, finally got some range back on my transmitter.63efc1bbeb7188b7e3daf282f19f4fdc.jpg

Well, sort of "did" something to my K2. Traded her in for a new cummins powered Ram 2500. I've wanted a diesel truck for forever, always loved the sound of them and seeing them tow ****** as a kid. I should have gone with a 2500 duramax when I bought mine but I let the money get to me and didn't buy it, regret that now as it's ending up costing me a lot more but couldn't be happier.

Drove the GMC and was all around pretty impressed but a few things steered me away:

  1. the L5P, while an awesome engine from all accounts is super locked down and it's encryption is so challenging to break that unless someone finds some crazy backdoor I expect it to cost a huge amount of money to do any meaningful tuning on them.
  2. For whatever reason chevy still designs their wheel wells in an odd way and you can't get too much larger a tire without jacking it to the sky. I don't be lifting my new truck 6" nor do I want to, but I want a bit of a larger tire for the look, performance, protection and comfort of more tire sidewall.
  3. Wanted to not go back to IFS. While they do ride nicer than a solid front axel I wanted a bit more in durability for the larger tires I planned to run. Even just running the 35s and 20s on my 1500 I could tell the ball joints were going pretty fast. I understand there was a price to play but since I knew I would be doing that from the start, and not minding if it rode a bit more like a truck, I felt it was a "compromise" I was willing to make.
  4. the GMC has a good look but sort of a lot going on. There are a lot of small accent pieces, trim, angles, etc. There is just a lot. I think the Chevy is dog ****** ugly (What happened! How did we go from the squarebody to this?) so it was really Ford or Ram from the looks dept. I like the look of the Ford enough but I could see the interior becoming dated quick and the quality of the plastics just didn't seem as nice as Ram/GM. The Ram was sort of the all around package for me. I love how it looks sort of reminiscent of a big rig with the hood that scallops down to lights. The side is clean and while I dislike that you can't easily strip off the ram logo I like the look enough that it doesn't bother me.

The 2500 diesel is vastly overkill for me, and for what I plan to buy for a travel trailer in the near future. Time will tell if the horror stories I hear about FCAs electrical problems are real or mostly ironed out (I bought my wife a new Wrangler JL a year and a half ago and it hasn't had any issues) so time will tell. I have to say, turning the keys over and saying goodbye was pretty bittersweet. I do love these trucks a lot but I was always looking at diesel trucks. Time will tell if it's one of those "the grass is greener" things or if I'm really happy with it. Excited to learn about a new platform and oil burner and the tuning and such. At the very least, I got a great deal and since diesels seem to hold their value and the cummins guys are diehard I can always come back without too much pain to the wallet.

I'll still prob be around poking now and then but figured I'd share since this forum has been such a large part of my truck build and deepened my knowledge by such a huge amount.

I've learned my lesson  with 2 products i bought , from DOdge, NEVER AGAIN... !!!!!  i would of went toyota  if i had to choose between Dodge and the rest of the market.. and you know what Dodge makes good stuff but they have lousy support and lame warranttee work, and yes electrical issues..... lease it for 2 years and trash it, everything nowadays is designed to fail

This is jist a replacement fob cover, the internals for this are the same physical ones from your current fob. Its just swapping the chip and battery over to a new case, so no increase in range.

I wonder why the guy you quoted claimed to have money range then ?

Idk, I didn't see any range increase from mine. Maybe its just happenstance. Youd have to get one and do the swap to see how it affects your fob and truck in particular.

In theory, it shouldn't make. Range difference because its the same exact chip, however, the lt and greater trims with silver sides are made of metal, and they might affect the range. So its a toss up between owners.

Well I'll test my luck I guess since I already traded mine and signed papers. I do agree though, everything nowadays seems designed for the dump.

What did you get?

Heat wrap the hard brake line from the master to frame rail and Methanol lines. Also got some of the heat reflective gold tape for the meth tank and reservoir.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
