Who cares about mileage? It is a truck. Get the 6.2. Wish I would have and I'll probraly end up trading my 14 in on a 2016 or 17 with a 6.2. I hear the 6.2 is a real beast and I can't wait to drive one.

My 6.2 gets 20-21.5mpg at 55-65 mph. Above that and it goes to 17-18. City gets 15mpg. I drive with a heavy foot. Why? This thing is a beast and so much fun.

I drove both, the 6.2 didnt wow me enough for the extra money on the motor, MPG and premium fuel the 6.2 needs.

6.2 does have more power(as you would expect) but for alot of highway cruising the 5.3 will be fine. I am happy with

mine and I had a 6.0 before this 5.3

Like the guy ^^^^ said, it's a truck...So who cares if it does 0-60 in 6 seconds vs 8 seconds. If I want to drive fast, I have a a track ready sports car that doesn't float like a boat when I drive over 100mph and it won't flip if I hit turn going 60 mph. If you need to tow more than the 5.3 can handle, should be looking at a diesel anyway. And as the other poster said, I didn't feel enough difference when driving the two to validate the price on something I would not use. I don't use my 600HP car to tow a boat, and I won't use my 5200lb truck to race. But that's just me, and my opinion only really matters to me, just as everyone else's only really matters to them, lol.

In the end though, it's all on you sir. You get what YOU want so YOU do not have buyers remorse. If 100 people respond, you will get 100 different opinions.

I drive 25K miles a year and prefer to at least be consious of the fuel costs. But the inner child still wants a playfull truck. The 5.3 has been good to me but its a slug compared to my 5.3 in my avalanche when its going between V4-V8 sometimes. Hence why I asked about the 6.2 feel.

There is no 6.2 around me so I have to make up my mind tomorrow if I want it so it can be trucked over. However there is no going back if I get it. So just asking.

I expect random answers just not the "who cares its a truck" doesnt really help me make my mind up my 9AM tomorrow.

Now this part is a helpful statement:

"And as the other poster said, I didn't feel enough difference when driving the two to validate the price on something I would not use."

If you couldn't tell a difference in the 5.3 and the 6.2 you prob would be ok driving a 4cyl Honda...lol

I drove the 5.3 and then drove a 6.2 a week later, the power difference was noticeable for sure. As said the 6.2 can knock down 20-22 on the highway up until 65mph, up to 70-75 will put you around 19-20mpg.

I love my 6.2, premium gas doesn't bother me as all of my cars have required premium. I added a CAI and changed out the muffler, truck sounds great and has plenty of get up and go.

I have both, wife has a 5.3 and mine is 6.2.

The gas mileage of both is similar.

If I were buying her truck again I would get the 6.2.

There is a big difference in power, especially on the top end.

Not only is it more fun to drive, the power is there when you want it.

If you want to trailer it should be easy to decide.

I felt a noticeable difference between the 5.3 and the 6.2. When you have to fill up a diesel, premium doesn't feel so bad. I get about 15 mpg out of my 6.2, mostly city driving.

I have the 6.2 with 3.42 gears and love it. I have seen a low of 14.7mpg driving into a 60mph headwind and a high of 34.9 mpg driving on flat lands with cruise set at 70mph.

Is premium required or just recommended. I once had an infiniti where it was required so just curious.

I test drove a 5.3 w 3.42 gears. My truck has the 6.2 and Max tow (3.73 gears) it is a freaking rocket compared to the 5.3. That said I drive 90% city usually under 45 mph in stop and go. I have just under 2000 miles on it and have averaged 11.2 mpg. But it is hard to keep your foot out of it. I also pull a 9900lb race trailer on occasion which it handles with ease. I did get a tick over 18 on the first highway trip with it but that was with the stock tires. I swapped them out for a set of stock size coopers which are slightly heavier which could also be hurting my mileage a little.

It will run on either reg or premium. It performs best with premium. Your mpg will increase with premium. I tracked it for a while, the addional mpg with premium paid for about half the addional cost.

Whether they recomend you run premium or GM says you have to I never paid attention. I just did it.

The manual and gas cap states that it is required. I asked the dealer this question and they also said it is required

Its a trade off---the 6.2 has more power -----I dont think anyone needs to be convinced of that. Its a larger motor that

has more horsepower and torque. That power comes at a cost, the initial cost of the engine and the increase in fuel

cost. Not sure if insurance is more? Perhaps someone here may know. I would expect you would get some of the initial

cost difference back on resale whenever that is the 6.2 should be worth a little more than the 5.3. Bottom line is the 6.2 costs

more so is the "fun" you will have driving it worth it to you? I drove both and chose the 5.3 the extra cost was not worth

it to me. My truck with the 5.3 is rated to tow 11000 lbs(3.73's) and gets 21-22 on hwy. I am happy with it. The premium

fuel the 6.2 wants is what bothered me, the extra 50 cents per gallon adds up. Normal driving I didnt notice much difference,

I think towing 10K lbs or racing or perhaps a lifted truck with large tires the 6.2 would be noticeably better.

    • This doesn't look like a GM truck. Not needed on a HD truck
    • It varies a ton around me. Some places are still at $5.00 or higher and others are way down into the $4's.   Offroad diesel was $4.02 at the one station I passed today.
    • So after reading the reveal from Chevrolet, I kept asking myself...why did the trim levels change?   Here are the official ones:   Work Truck (WT): The quintessential fleet truck, built with durable, easy-to-clean interiors for commercial or utilitarian use. Custom: A stylish, road-oriented trim that adds a more refined appearance, standard dual exhaust, and modern exterior styling. Custom Trail Boss: An entry-level off-roader featuring a 2-inch factory suspension lift and 34-inch mud-terrain tires on a budget. Silverado: Serving as the new base consumer truck (replacing the previous LT trim), it comes standard with the Z71 off-road package when equipped with 4WD. Trail Boss: Steps up the off-road hardware with the 2-inch lift, 34-inch tires, monotube shocks, an exclusive off-road hood, and more premium interior options. ZR2: The flagship off-roader. It boasts 35-inch mud-terrain tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear electronic lockers, forged carbon-fiber interior accents, and an available hardcore Bison Edition (co-developed with AEV). High Country: The pinnacle of luxury. It replaces bright chrome with modern satin chrome, 22-inch wheels, premium leather, real wood interior trim, a panoramic sunroof, and an exclusive front-passenger touchscreen. As others have stated, why would you want a Silverado - 'Silverado' - wth?? LT needs to remain!!!   Also, there will no longer be a dedicated Z71 model.  All 4x4 trucks will have the Z71 package. Carplay is also something that cannot be removed.  Hopefully it will remain.     I am excited about the 5.7L V8 (350 C.I.D.)  Old school Chevy power.  My only concern is whatever version of AFM/DFM cylinder deactivation.  Too bad that isn't an option a buyer can choose to have or not.   I will definitely be stopping by my local dealership when these trucks start showing up.
    • I haven't seen diesel for less than $5.30 anywhere in my area
    • The not as clean as one would assume theme with the new engine oil, that reminds me of comments over the years with mechanics not always being so on board with filling an oil filter, not from the center anyway due to that typically being the clean side of the filter, danger of some contaminant falling into the filter if not careful but the realization now that the oil may not be as pure as one had assumed it would surely be. Yes it would be possible to fill from the small holes but that means messing with something to prop open the anti drain back valve if the filter is so equipped and not damage that valve in the process. Me, I have hardly ever prefilled an engine oil filter however I have prefilled diesel fuel filters with a filter on a fuel bulk tank and for anyone that has messed with diesel engines with filters and units that have a limited or no way of priming them, putting on a dry filter is a bad day to say the least with those crappy systems. But anyway back to not so clean engine oil, indeed perhaps its not so bad after all that I have not made a practice of prefilling oil filters.    As Grumpy Bear commented on keeping things clean, that I really have to wonder what the typical practice is at a dealer or any other shop that changes engine oil, do they make sure to wipe or wash off the oil plug and certainly if it fell into some gunk or onto a dirty floor, or that they wiped the filter mounting flange and didn't go and use some dirty rag and end up adding dirt to the inside of the head of the filter mount. Or be careless in how they stored or handled the new filter and if they were bumping into items under the vehicle with the filter opening facing up and having dirt drop right into the filter and if so right into the threaded center that is on the clean side. The top side, did they clean away the built up gunk that may be around the filler before removing the cap or to be really careful at that point that something right close to the filler hole that was hidden under the caps flange won't fall into the engine. Or did they clean the funnel or was that just laying there covered in oil from the oil change before and dust kicked up from sweeping the floor stuck to the oil and now that will go running into the next persons engine due to just not cleaning the funnel as "they won't know anyway" attitude as that young guy is more worried about taking a break so he can go outside and smoke a joint. Just random points that came to mind when I think about what some hired personnel may do that the shop foreman has no idea of or perhaps the whole attitude of some shops may be "eh ... who cares, they will never know the difference anyway".
