DENALI FRONT BUMPER PAINT PEELING OFF

Any one have this problem. I live in northern ontario canada. the dealer say that it is coming off from the sand and salt from the roads hitting the front of truck and they are probably right. But i have owned many vehicles and have never seen paint come off like this from road crap in such a short amount of time. it only took bout 15k of driving. i MIGHT expect this if i owned the vehicle for several yrs. Actually i have had some vehicle for a lot longer and have never seen front bumpers lose paint like that. You may have noticed that it is only the lower part of the bumper that is losing paint. The road debris must ONLY TARGET THAT AREA, right? BS!!! any thoughts?

My front bumper looks like that too but mine's an 06 and plenty more miles. I'd definitely would push to have that fixed up. That is really not cool on a brand new vehicle.

That portion of the bumper is going to be hit the most with flying debris. That's the corner of your truck that going to be taking the brunt of any loose sand and salt from every vehicle you've passed. I see a lot of newer trucks that are having this problem. They're all painted over metal bumpers. And it's not just the GM trucks. The FX4's have been have these problems for a couple years here. It's was the main reason I didn't buy a denali. I didn't want the painted bumpers.

If you get them to fix it, I'd suggest getting it 3M'd on the entire front of the truck. Otherwise, hate to say it, but it's probably going to happen again. The new water based paint that every manufacture uses now is not were near as strong as the old solvent based use to be.

Well i wont be painting it. but I will get the front bumper wrapped in vinyl at a vehicle lettering place as it would be cheaper to do so. At least that is what i am thinking.

I have the same problem. I cleaned it, touched it up and put the new 3M clear bra on it. No way should a new painted bumper look like mine does after 4000 miles.

Dealer says that it is standard road debris. I've never had a vehicle with paint that chips like this so early. I can only imagine what it would look like in a couple of years.

Yea my black All terrain bumper has a few chips in it. Not nearly as bad as OP, but still you'd think they would put a few extra coats of paint in the "high debris areas" to help prevent chipping and peeling. I am going to have mine repainted before winter and maybe add 3M Bra.

Chrome bumper holds up fine

Looking at the OP, I'd definitely put a coating or clear bra on any of the painted bumpers.

Just got off phone with GM. they are doing absolutely nothing about it. They says it was road debris. I told them that i can fully agree that it was road debris. I then asked them why none of my others vehicles that travel on the same road don't have that problem. I have a school bus that is 7 hrs old. All the paint is still on that bumper. I just spent over 100 k on a truck for me and the wife. I guess they don't give a rats ass for that. I am in the market for a new bus, and if I have my way, it won't be a gm. My other company is also buying a few new vehicles in the next month or so. Probably won't be a gm. My only regret is that my dealer is very good to me and they may get caught in the scrap. Yes. I am mad!,,

I have a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic with painted plastic front end. The front bumper is the front fascia of the car. Not a single chip to date after 15k miles because they use flexible paint additive on soft plastic bumpers. And the paint quality on this car is most likely not better than on a 2014 truck.

The clear bra looks great. I had the whole front including the chrome and mirrors done. Much easier to get bugs off too. Glad I did it, but I wish that I had done it day 1.

thats not a paint defect, thats from sand on the road and because you might be following people too close.

i had mine wrapped with clear bra. living in colorado we get sand on the roads all the time and i knew right away anything metal and painted is sure to take a beating.

plastic painted parts hold up much better.

best thing to do is remove the bumper and take it to a body shop, have them sand and repaint it, i bet it costs about 200 bucks in labor. you might even be able to save yourself some money doing the R&R and sanding yourself.

just have them spray it.

then let it cure for about a month and have it wrapped.

mine got 2 chips within the week of delivery before i could get it in for the clear bra.

i plan to full the chips with a syringe and a little touchup paint under the clear bra one of these days when i get around to it.

Its not the paint, Its the clearcoat. As someone that works in the auto paint industry, I can tell you its the most expensive thing that the manufacturer will try to save money on.

More along the lines of $100 just to take the bumper off and remove the sensors. Depending on if he wants to strip it, primer, sealer basecoat and clearcoat, that might turn into $450-500 job.

Since this is a problem on the new trucks I recommend people go that way and clear it with THIS clearcoat: http://www.armorcoatusa.com/ I did my truck in this, its the best and strongest clearcoat one can buy, never have chips again.
