What did you do to your "other" car (aka musclecar) today

Wondering where that front SS emblem fell off. Think I like it better without it.  If I replace it I'll get the dark one(from the Fifty model) next.

Pic? I changed mine out to a 1LE badge

I absolutely love those year Chevys. My high school buddy had one that was an SS with the HP 327 and a 4 speed. He put in a 350 LT 1 Corvette motor, 4.10 gears and headers that dropped into Zoomies . It didn't have much top end, but man did it get there quick and loud!

Some beautiful iron in those days. Those and the Ford Galaxie 500 are some of my favorite body styles. Back when the Big 3 gave a crap about their customers.

What color was your friends car... This was a 327 4 speed from the factory. Still have the original engine, but trans and rear are long gone. Has a factory 12 bolt with 3:73. Trans is an M23Z autogear that sounds better then a rock crusher. 302 with a cross ram. Factory Disc brakes as you can see. Getting a front alignment, hence the two tires.

It was medium blue -I know the name but it escapes me. He worked at a body shop, so it was a nice lacquer finish.

Found an interesting coyote  mustang. Under $10k, under 90k miles, and has Cobra Jet manifold, TB, intake, and tune, exhaust. Looks like itneeds some trim parts inside from wear. Driver quality, but a Coyote for the price of a 4th gen SS with similar miles.

Wonder how rough it has had it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Today I went to Harbor Freight and picked up 2 cans of the R134A A/C refrigerant for my 97 Lumina.  It hasn't blown cold air since I got it back in December and after the temp hit 85+ here in Denver, driving with the windows down just won't cut it anymore.   Didn't know if I had a leak in the system or if it was just empty after 23 years of use.  The DIY can and instructions worked very well.  It did show I had some refrigerant in the system but I went ahead and evacuated what was left (less than 5 lbs) into another can and added a can and a half bringing it up to almost 40 lbs.  The air cooled down nicely and the A/C compressor was working like a charm.  The lubricant/oil that is mixed in with the R134A quieted down the compressor quite nicely as well.  Best $40 bucks I've spent on the car thus far.  (and I only paid $1500 for the car)  So far I am quite pleased with how well this old rental beater has held up.  (found out it spent it's first 30,000 miles for Enterprise Rental car after I got it)  Only 136,000 miles, tranny shifts smoothly, and engine does well for only 165HP.  Has the 3.1L V6 Series III.  They can be prone to head gasket leaks so keeping an eye on that, but if I can get a year or two of use out of this thing I'll be happy.  I'm next going to work on quieting down some of the squeaks on the inside.  Overall it's a decent ride and helps keep miles off of my truck when I don't need to use the truck.

Even if it was just empty the seals would have dried out if there was nothing in there for that long. So plan on replacing all of them and hope you don't have to. Find a can of R134 with UV dye at Walmart or parts store and put a few shots of it in
