Governor removed= weird sound

Ok, what I am about to share is no way in part me condoning or liable for any of you doing this...

Now with that out of the way. I removed Governor with my Diablo tuner. So to test it out, I got the truck up to speed. At 104 it appears that the governor is trying to bring the beast back down to 98 mph and makes this noise and vibration like it's going over rumble strips in the back of the truck. It clears out at 110 and is smooth sailing.

So my question is, with the guys that have removed this and have a tune, have you experienced this with your truck?

Could be a driveline component not happy at speed. There was a video of a guy with a V6 Mustang that made the rounds a couple year ago who disabled the limiter and had the driveshaft let go, causing extensive damage.

Put a Go Pro up under the truck looking along the length of the driveshaft. If the shaft is going through its natural harmonic at that speed, it could be wobbling and flexing/bowing in the middle.

A go pro would catch the driveshaft doing that??? pretty cool

Word of advice. If you feel a driveline vibration at 110 I wouldn't go that fast. I literally just went and picked my brother up off of the side of the interstate 2 hrs ago; his drive shift came apart running 115. Granted it was a dodge, I didn't rub it in as he was pretty shook up, but he felt a hash vibration and pushed it through it just like you mentioned. A few seconds later loud bang and no more go; no sign a driveshaft was ever there except the u - joints were still there and the caved in exhaust, busted gas tank and fender bulged out. Not sure what else was messed up; truck wouldn't go into park and I had to pull the ignition fuse to kill it once the tow truck dropped it off at the dealership. It thought it was still going to fast to go into park and all he had was the little knob for the gear selector and a button to kill it

And that's another reason why only a pro should make a truck faster.

so long

In Texas it real easy to go over the governor speed if you have a tune while passing, the speed limit is high even on two lane roads. The limit is there for the speed rating of the tires. You truck should be fine at higher speeds other wise. The problem your going to have is the dealer, your going to have to own up to a tune to get them to address it. Its sounds like a drive shaft problem, which seems to be a common problem on some of the new trucks. You really only have two ways to go, fine the problem your self, or wait to see if the vibration comes in sooner than the engine cut off with out the tune. I felt that one time myself during a pass I thought I hit the rumble strips, not been that high since. So staying under 110 mph sounds like a good idea.

Another word of advice is to keep your programmer with you. My brother didn't have his and we had to leave it at the dealer last night with his hemi fever tune installed. Probably the first thing they will look for with a driveshaft flying apart. Will find out today when the dealership gets to look at the truck.

Oh no, try to sneak back in, say you have to get something out of the truck, and get that tune back to stock.

I would love to but he lives in San Antonio texas. He works on drilling rigs and he just so happened to be working around my house in North louisiana. Just bad luck.

This actually brings up some thought here... I'd like to bring my truck to the 1/4 mile track but after hitting the limiter the other day I don't think I'm gonna clear the whole 1/4. Heck the ragazines said they ran 99mph in the 1/4! It actually felt like the limiter kicked in at 90 on mine but maybe it was because I wasn't expecting to hit it so soon and by the time I looked down I was at 90. So what is the limiter set at exactly?? 98?

Mine showed 99 before I tuned. The only way I know this is that with the gears and tires it would govern out before I got to 78mph on the gps.the driveshaft should be good for it. With the 4.56 gears and 35" tires I have ran it up to 95mph. That would be close to 120 with factory 3.42 gearing without issue

7000lbs, I am thinking the trucks are in the 5500lbs range. 7k is close to 4 tons.
