pastduedate Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Had my local privateer service guy try and flush my 2014 today. Routine job for him, but this was his first 2014. After hooking up his flushing machine he could get no flow through the drain line or the fill line. Suspecting that the flow was controlled by a thermostat, we ran the truck until the transmission reached 77 C or 170F. Still no flow. Has anyone else been anal enough to flush the transmission yet? And their experience? Thanks.
Colossus Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 why a flush on a 2014 already? Just do a drain and fill.
redwngr Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I hope he paid you to let him experiment with your truck.....
MMC Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 How many miles do you have? Why are you flushing a new transmission? Inquiring minds want to know.
Higgs Boson Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 probably because he can....i do the same thing. engine oil at 500, engine oil, trans, rear, etc at 1000. engine oil every 5000 rest of drivetrain every 30k every car and truck i own. not to mention drain and fill is pointless.
gmtech4 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 owners manual does NOT mention doing a flush ,,,, he will flush money from your wallet only with this service
GTD Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Like the OP I consider my self anal also. However I know these transmissions use synthetic fluid and unless the trans temp has spiked and stayed at 230○ plus, I would doubt that it needed changing. But as mentioned he can do what he wants--his truck.

GMC-AT Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 +1 ... I hope he paid you... all you did was possibly screw things up. You shouldn't need to touch anything with the trans until 50K min...
Spurshot Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 As I heard it, the fluid used for flushing is not all new. Is this true?
Higgs Boson Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 As I heard it, the fluid used for flushing is not all new. Is this true? sure if you use a crappy dealer....
Colossus Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 The dealers will know how to flush this newer stuff properly. Give it a few years and the rest of the auto repair industry will also be trained and up to speed on the tranny services for new vehicles. That being said, the only reason I can see to flush the thing is if you've purchased a used vehicle and don't know the service history behind it. If the Tranny has been serviced properly at the right intervals then you should not need to flush it. Someone mentioned that there is a TSB out there that says not to be flushing some of these trannies on the trucks. That being said, I had the tranny flushed on my 08 2500 Duramax at 30,000 miles and had no issues. I flushed it because it saw severe duty and saw quite a bit of stream/water crossings and rough use going up and down bad mountain roads/trails. If you don't qualify for severe duty driving conditions, then a drop n fill will be just fine. Just make usre you use the right fluid!
pastduedate Posted October 5, 2014 Author Posted October 5, 2014 To answer some questions, I’ve known the shop owner 50 yrs., we grew up neighbors, so I do trust him. The truck has 16,000 kilometers on it. I know, I may be considered anal by some, but I’ve used Amsoil in everything I could for the last 20 yrs. Engine, transmission, rear ends transfer cases, power steering. Commuted to work an hour each way, all highway. The only lub related mechanical breakdown in that time was a transmission. And I was too lazy to get the Amsoil in it. So that is why I’m trying to completely flush out the factory fluid and replace it with the Amsoil. From what I can find on the web, it looks like I will have to find a shop that has a flushing machine that also preheats the oil. Fun. I’m not positive, but I think GM would not put the best oil in that they could find. But just good enough$$. The other train of thought was the clunky, at drive train. Would the change out help. But ,I still like my truck!
