2014 transmission flush

The dealers will know how to flush this newer stuff properly. Give it a few years and the rest of the auto repair industry will also be trained and up to speed on the tranny services for new vehicles.

 

That being said, the only reason I can see to flush the thing is if you've purchased a used vehicle and don't know the service history behind it. If the Tranny has been serviced properly at the right intervals then you should not need to flush it. Someone mentioned that there is a TSB out there that says not to be flushing some of these trannies on the trucks. That being said, I had the tranny flushed on my 08 2500 Duramax at 30,000 miles and had no issues. I flushed it because it saw severe duty and saw quite a bit of stream/water crossings and rough use going up and down bad mountain roads/trails. If you don't qualify for severe duty driving conditions, then a drop n fill will be just fine. Just make usre you use the right fluid!

FWIW, Allison specifically recommends that you do NOT use a power flush system with the ally that is used behind a Dmax.

like stated above and I agree, if you are trying to change your trans oil don't flush. drop the pan and change the filter. doing it that way will also be able to tell you if there is any trouble lurking inside of the trans (which there shouldn't be but when your miles starts getting higher this will be true)

New to all this but figured i could try to help. I just performed a transmission service on my 2014 sierra and flushed the trans (old school, the way i was tought) The reason i wanted to flush the fluid was i was going to go to Valvoline full synthetic Dextron VI. I have 65K miles on my truck and drive my truck hard. Some towing and but mostly long trips.

 

I dropped the pan and replaced the filter, then added 8 quarts of new fluid. Before i started the truck i removed the inlet hose going into the trans cooler and installed a clear line going to a bucket. Then i started the truck and allowed 6 quarts to drain, after 6 quarts had drained i added 3 quarts. Then i checked it when it was hot and added .5 quarts.

 

Here is the Math:

Truck holds 12quarts;

Dropping the pan and filter change i loss 5.5 quarts

added 8 quarts that put the system up to 14.5 quarts

removed 6 quarts that put the system down to 8.5 quarts

added 3.5 quarts at the end that put the system back to 12q.

 

I'll try to post pics once i figure it out

Following this thread. I just turned 10,000 miles on my 15. Hubby wants me to convert over to Amsoil trans fluid also.

probably because he can....i do the same thing.

 

engine oil at 500, engine oil, trans, rear, etc at 1000.

 

engine oil every 5000

rest of drivetrain every 30k

 

every car and truck i own.

 

not to mention drain and fill is pointless.

Good to know, I drain and fill at every oil change on my 1ton, I do a filter change at 75,000 miles and other then that just drain and fill at every oil change.

Update: Truck just hit 125k and it was time to service trans. I had used Valvoline Maxlife ATF Dextron VI full synthetic on the last change and flush. I would not recommend it because it came out Brown! to its defence the fluid did not smell burnt, the trans seems to be working fine and the filter looked clean. I will be sending it out for an oil analysis but i can't help to think it has started to degrade. Looking back the OEM fluid drained at 65k still had a red tint with a strong atf smell, this stuff looked more like used oil. Just throwing my 2 cents out there, if you're going to flush, use an Approved Dextron VI fluid, this stuff is only recommended.

Their is nothing wrong with changing fluids before GM thinks you should. its the tree huggers and armchair mechanics that get all upity about it.

Yup, suddenly the fluids need to come out every 45,000 once it's put into severe driving conditions vs. 5years?

To the original post, yes there is a thermostatic controlled valve that has to open to use the cooler lines to exchange the fluid.

 

I did our 2016 Suburban at 8k miles because I wanted to put AMSOIL ATL in the tranny. All the fluids have been changed over to AMSOIL.

When I did my first drain/fill on my transmission fluid (pulled through dipstick) it was very brown. This was around 60,000 miles. I did 4 drain/fill (about a gallon each time) with Maxlife ATF. I'm about to 96,000 miles and the fluid is still mostly red.

 

When you dropped your pan, did you have to move the exhaust? I'm planning on doing a pan drop next so I can replace the filter.

FYI: After dealing with a few..I have concluded that the DexronVI starts turning brown after 30K. According to oil "experts" it is very much OK.
