trade in 5.3 for a 6.2?

Once I heard that companies where adding superchargers and giving warranties, I figured the engines were tough enough for a caned tune. I also figured the can tune companies would step in and help if their product was said to cause the failure. Leap of faith maybe but it wouldn't be the first time I took on a big company over BS and won, and made my attorneys lots of money. If im wrong I take it, if not I fight it.

The problem wouldn't be then. It would be from a parts failure that is neithers fault but falls on the responsibility of GM like the L92 motor that dropped some valve from vender quality issues. If you are the first with the issue GM will say and as they should it's not there issue and you will be screwed because of the tune. Then maybe 6 months later whrn more fail and they trace it to a batch they got. Then they will take the blame, issue a recall and fix them. Plus probably reimburse you, but for 6 months you would be out say $8k or without a working truck if you can't afford it. Many can't deal with either one and have to cover their own ass by not messing with it. Many will say f it or know they can and will. Most with no issue, but that is ip to each person to decide. I personally coming from a 1995 truck look forward to not being the one who has to fix it everytime for a little while. However I'll will eventually get to have where i have to have more and will open it up. just not yet.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think a lot of it to is the initial cost on investment, then investing into the uprgrade. To each his own, their truck is their investment and they modify it burn it let it sit, I dont really care. And there is some really good parts out there and not so great parts out there. Theres also people that know what they are doing and not know what they are doing when they install these items. What worries me on aftermarket is two things, one if I have a new model year, what sort of time and engineering went into it? 2. An aftermarket manufacture is concerned about reputation and what not like any business and wants to sell a quality item. But at the end of the day. A. what sort of testing did they do, alot of them do a guinea pig vehicle to test form and function, but what sort of test were done and hours gone into it. B. Besides reputation what sort of liability do they carry beyond covering their own part? I have seen it numerous times where some guy upgrades something and something in return breaks and the OEM and the aftermarket point fingers at each other and ultimately the consumer pays.

I have known numerous guys who have gone aftermarket on tunes, blowers, pulleys etc etc. No matter the quality of the material or who installed it they have always had an issue here or there big or small.

First off in all the years of playing I never had a failure in the engine, its just can tunes. I always have something else I can drive if I do. I can do my own work too if needed 10K for an engine no way. If I cant replace a part there is always used. I can wait too for a disputed outcome. Im just not going to live in the what if world, im going to have fun and take my chances, if a person cant deal with that then by all means leave it alone, its fine, I just cant.

Have owned several 350's, 5.3's. Truck I traded was a '09 5.3 ltz, drove a 14, seemed like it had less umph off the line than my 09. Drove a 14, with the 6.2, within seconds told the salesman to find me a black one. First 6.2 I've owned, 16,000 miles now, took a 3,000 mile road trip, averaged 22.5 mpg at 80+ with the stock 20's. In my opinion, 5.3-6.2 both awesome trucks, I just like having a leg up on my family, and friends. I don't "need" 4x4 everyday, or a 6.2, but wouldn't want to spend all that $$, and wish I had it.

I guess I will be the first to call BS on this. There is no way in hell these trucks will get over 20mpg going 80mph plus.

I had a 2011 6.2L and 3.73 gears and 20" rims and got pretty consistent 19-20mpg on trips running 65-70mph so if the truck has 3.42 gears I suppose it could be close to 22 mpg depending on the elevation and type of road he was driving on.

Actually it could cost more. Have you ordered an LT1 motor alone? I have at work and you can't get a new one without the truck or car. Maybe if you know the right GM guy, but not normal people. That would make any used ones you can find worth more than what they will cost when you can order one. Actually it was a while ago so I'll try again tomorrow.

My max tank was 21 and that wasn't at 70 yet alone 80. Also was running high tire pressures. 22s will get better mpg on highway. Heavier wheels are better if they just keep going like highway plus less rolling resistance with little side wall.

[/quote Not one of these new ones, I wouldn't be messing with the truck if it was my only source of transportation or I was scraping by for the payments. Ive been there paid my dues. BUT, if I cant play a little without worrier Im willing to dance the dance and say prove it and wait. Im in the equipment field and dance before and won, it took a few years but the satisfaction was worth it. If I know what Iv done has potential to cause harm fine, but if not Im ready to fight for it on the facts. I know my truck is a better driver, more responsive and that annoying V4 is gone. Who ever came up with that should have his man card taking away. At lease put a switch in to turn it off.

The 2011 6.2 and new 6.2 are completely different engines.

bigger wheels typically get worse gas milage, takes more revolutions to get around as far as I know.

Bigger wheels yes, but when we get 18s 20s or 22s from the factory it is the same size tire on a bigger wheel. So what you are doing is reducing the tie side wall to keep it the same on the increased rim size. If you have a 1" side wall you have almost no flex or it would let the room hit the road. This lack of flex kills ride quality making it rough but also reduces the energy loss from the flex. Remove wind friction and a 22s will coast longer in neutral that 18s.

Heavier wheel take more torque to spin, but once spinning take more to stop spinning. That is why if you have large wheels you should have large brakes. This also means once rolling they take less power to keep rolling unless they are mud tires which will have more flex and aggressive tread patterns.

Tire width also plays in, skinny will get better milage.

I'm no physicist, but I don't think this is accurate. I think it's widely known that lighter wheels are more efficient in every way.
