trade in 5.3 for a 6.2?

I run E 85 in my 5.3 '14 Silverado. I got the itch to try a 6.2 since I'm into hot rod bikes and like to have vehicles with a little more spunk. I test drove a Denali with a 6.2 and was ready to pay the difference if it was the "beast" I heard it was. Yeah, floored it's a bit faster, but not astonishingly faster than my 5.3 on E 85. Honestly, the 5.3 has more than enough power to merge onto freeway ramps and passing cars on the two lanes. When I drove off in my LTZ, I was amazed how similar the features are in my truck to that Denali. The Denali is a really nice truck, and that 6.2 is a great engine, but not enough difference for the difference in price if I were to trade my '14 LTZ. Maybe I'm getting old?

Supercharger on the 5.3 with E85 will likely be cheaper while smoking the stock 6.2.

IMO the 5.3L with 3.42's feels plenty punchy. But comparing a truck to a sports car?

My truck is my DD and errand runner. Also tows a boat & camper from time to time plus gets me out where only 4x4's can go! What's not to love? Trucks kick a$$ great to have so much power and utility.

Between my wife and I, we have it covered, sports car, sport performance full size car, stroked blown nasty full size truck, 99% of the time the 14 GMC covers all the bases. You lower it a little, open the exhaust a little, tune it a little and it handles and performs just fine.

I've got the 5.3 with 3.42 gears with an exhaust and intake. Not tuning it as I have extended warrantee til 240k kms. It's not a slow truck by any means I would just rather not go spend 10k on a car when I can put that money into my truck and have an all in one package. Besides in Manitoba we get maybe 3 months of nice car weather while the rest of the year is crap

I just traded my 5.3 for a 6.2. I did it due to relocation and the need for 4WD. I cannot tell a large difference in every day driving, but the power while towing is significant.

Test drove both before I purchased my 6.2. IMO the 5.3 was sluggish and slow. Go test drive a 6.2 and see if it’s a big enough difference for you to justify the hit you will take.

Have owned several 350's, 5.3's. Truck I traded was a '09 5.3 ltz, drove a 14, seemed like it had less umph off the line than my 09. Drove a 14, with the 6.2, within seconds told the salesman to find me a black one. First 6.2 I've owned, 16,000 miles now, took a 3,000 mile road trip, averaged 22.5 mpg at 80+ with the stock 20's. In my opinion, 5.3-6.2 both awesome trucks, I just like having a leg up on my family, and friends. I don't "need" 4x4 everyday, or a 6.2, but wouldn't want to spend all that $$, and wish I had it.

If you have the money and can take the hit go for it. Like said above you could add a lot of aftermarket goodies to the 5.3 for the amount of $$ you will lose on trading it in. Hell if you could find a wrecked 6.2 it would probably be cheaper to do a swap.

355 HP is a lot of get up and go, and if you aren't towing (which I rarely do, just some decoys, light trash, etc....) is more than enough for me. But I respect we are all looking for something a little different out our trucks.

Do what I did. I got an lml 2012 Denali hd with the allison and duramax. Nice power and bullet proof drive train. Better then the 2011 awd ext with 6.2 I had before. But I do like my wife's g8 gt because it weighs less and has the 6.0. I do like the idea of a super charger. I wish I could do one with her car, but I sill owe 18.5k on my truck.

22.5 mpg at 80+ mph with a 6.2 4wd? Dang, guess I messed up buying the 5.3. I just completed a road trip on flat roads and no wind to speak of. Best I could manage was 22 mpg, and that was doing 60 mph! Doing 80 on the interstate, I was getting approx 19.5 mpg. Towing my 5K lb travel trailer, I'm lucky to get 9 mpg on flat roads.
