This was in WV, Potomac Highlands area (deer hunting). DC didn't get squat!

Man you got dumped on in DC, all we got here was rain in central Maryland.

No, sadly...

I have Cooper Discoverer AT3's with about 20k on them. They were better last year in the deep snow than this year. I put about 15k on my truck though this past year. I'll probably grab some Discoverer ATW's here at some point. I tend to drop my tires when they get down to 5/32nds on them. When you're at snow up to the bumper I don't know if getting up steep hills without chains is an option (even with really good tires). Also, I was glad that I took that stupid lower air damn (that black thing) off from under my bumper last summer.

I hope we get some good snow here so I can test the truck out in it (even with factory Goodyear SR-As). I love driving in snow and rain so I can't wait til drive it in some snow (if we get any).

The ATW's looked really awesome to me, doesn't appear that Discount tire has em yet... I read about them in FourWheeler. I'm really happy with how my ATP's handle the snow, so I bet I'd be blown away by the ATW's. For me the #1 factor is how well they stop.

That pic looks awesome, with the snow pushing in front of the pickup.

You have an open diff with 4x4? That doesn't sound right. Your glovebox sticker doesn't say G80?

For reals yo. The salesman couldn't believe it either when I bought it. Just a basic LS 4wd with 4.8 V8. I added the z71 skid plates (underbody, transfer case) myself. I've thought about having a locking diff installed. However, I've never been completely hung up as a result of not having it.

Well the G80 is just an auto lock diff, so it has to sense that one tire is spinning at a much different speed than the other. I haven't felt it in my '14, but my 98 it would sometimes lock into posi just in the rain. But, I will admit that the G80 saved my ass a good 2 or 3 times while playing in the mud. To me if you have a 4x4 a G80 is almost a want if you only use 4x4 on occasion. But, if you're hardcore and have big tires and go mudding or off-roading on a weekly basis then have an aftermarket installed, not a factory G80. Not sure how much they've improved, but back around the time of my 98 the G80s weren't all that reliable which is why I say if you're hardcore then go aftermarket. It cost more money, but they have lockers that engage by the push of a button from the cab instead of hoping it locks into posi.

Having a G80 in my Duramax really helped out quite a bit. In 4WD there is still a ton of torque that it easily spins the front and rear tire so when both rear would lock up it would get me going very nicely then.

I'm not overly impressed with my 2013 in the snow, but I attribute that mostly because of the factory Goodyear SR-A tires.....IMO, my 2006 with factory Bridgestone Duellers was much better

G80s are decent off road but their not very good at drifting, donuts, drag racing or burnouts. They seem weak in the 6 lug doing these things
