Mindless Ranting...I'll try that!

I always try and take care of my vehicles and keep them away from those who would throw their doors open and put a nice "ding" in my vehicle. I do sometimes park far away or at the end and over as far as I can go, giving the car next to me pleanty of room.

So I am at the dealer of all places, picking up something for my wife for Christmas.

I am trying to load this big box in my truck, but there is not enough room for me to fully open the front door, so i sqweeze between the door and the jamb, opening the rear door and sliding the box in, all the time being very carefull not to hit the car parked next to me. It can be difficult with those rear suicide doors.

I get the box in and jump inside and look over to my right rear view mirror, and there are three (women) loading packages into a black car and I notice there door is fully open and looks like it is hitting on my truck.

So I pull out of the space and walk back and of course it is a waste of time, saying anything, because they would just deny it, so I hold my anger and they say, "were ok", so I leave.

I get home and look at my fender and there is black scratch about 1" on it.

I was so mad, and after looking very carefully at it, I noticed it was black paint and maybe one of my cleaners would take it off, and that's what I did. It now looks like no one hit or rubbed their door up against the truck.

It could have very easily been the other way around and my paint could have come off, leaving a nice scratch.

What a coincidence that I would be on the left side being so very careful, sqweezing in with barely any room, and the people on the other side of me could care less what they are doing, pushing their door open as far as they can.

Am I becoming a grouchy old guy at 57? I hope not. But why people don't take the extra effort to make sure they don't damage other peoples property is beyond me.

Mindless? I doubt it.

I'm like you and I believe most of us are. Unfortunately, there is very little can be done about other people's behaviors.

I always run bars or boards, if I have to park next to someone its a car. I try to find a sports car.

Note that car and truck manufacturers have eliminated body side moldings on most cars and some trucks and SUVs to save money. This does not help in preventing dings and dents.

I've bounced a few splits of firewood off my truck the first week I bought it so I've got a few dings here and there, and it would still upset me if someone leaned their door into my truck, it's just down right disrespectful.

I'm thankful for the side moldings on my truck because they're almost always the contact point, saving the actual door and paint.

And I almost never park in congested areas up front, I prefer to drop my wife off at the door and then go off to park in the boonies.

Someone's dog decided it'd be a good idea to try and get in my pickup bed. The bedcover was on, apparently that didn't stop him from trying. Scratches clear up on the cover about a foot, must have been a big old dog to do that.

He tried about 5 times, got both sides of the pickup. In one place, he pawed it so hard it chipped the paint and actually dimpled the body a tiny bit.

Not sure what he was after, my spare tire maybe? Moral of the story is, don't let your dog run around in town. I bet if I'd caught him in the act, he wouldn't do it again (pepper spray, I can't shoot a dog).

People are just inconsiderate now a days on the roads and in parking lots so I try to park as far away as possible... I always find even when I park at the back of the parking lot to play it safe, some shmuck will park next to me for no apparent reason.

Oh, it's for a reason. Shmuck is too nice of a word.

Its always nice to have a wife who looks out for your truck too, my wife from time to time tells me: don't park next to them they look like a "bammer". Lol, so she dosent mind walking a lil further

I have the amazing ability to find the most empty, desolate, and/or remote looking spot in the lot without a vehicle within some distance. 9 times out of 10, I come back and I'm surrounded. Amuses the better half to no end.

+1 on the sports cars, at least the slightly older yet well kept up Mustangs. If I see one of them next to me in the parking garage I park in (I am one of the earliest in there), every time they are (brace yourself) IN THE LINES, not ON but IN the GD LINES!!! (sharp intake of breath). FM. I can see full size trucks and the like having trouble getting fit in the lines but wtf, it appears a fair amount of people in Central ILL can't figure the concept of parking in the lines!

I try to park away from other cars but my nerf bars seem to be a good blocker for lower sitting vehicles I suppose someone with suv or truck could still door ding me though.

I'm a 'younger' guy I suppose (30 years old) and I take good care of both of my wife and mines vehicles and it pisses me off when people don't respect others things like that.

You're not the only one "grouchy". I'm the exact same way. Not only am I careful with my vehicles, I also keep a watchful eye to make sure the neighborhood kids aren't tearing up my lawn either!

Oh, and I'm not even 30 yet. I don't suppose it gets any better does it?
