Thanks yeah I see the engine size now after rereading the first post. My eyes gets a bit blurry after hours and hours of reading these forums.

I am at around 29k now. I do not like the way my 5.3 sounds when it first starts and the constant click from the direct injection pump to me sounds like a bad lifter but the dealer says it is all perfectly normal and everything is peachy. All the other 5.3's that I drove sounded about the same. I hope we all do not start seeing major failures right after the warranty drops off at 100k!

I am afraid that a lot of parts on these trucks are purposely engineered to fail right after warranty expiration. That's the new trend in automotive industry these days. Building a vehicle that will last 300k miles without major problems does not seem to be profitable anymore. And it isn't just GM. This seems to be the case with many car and truck manufacturers. Global economy forces intense competition and everyone is constantly looking for ever cheaper sources of parts and components. Something has to give - and quality is usually it.

So, I just wanted to check back in and give an update on things:

First: I am a happy camper. I love my truck. I am so happy that I did not push for a new truck. Everything (including the engine) works great.

Second, I have great MPG: With about 6,000 on the new engine, the MPG for the last three fill-ups are:

-- 18.5 MPG

-- 19.7 MPG

-- 20.01 MPG

I can't beat that with a stick. Thanks again for your great advice.

Best Regards,

Stan

I continue to be a happy camper with my truck. It is going on 3 years, and the truck is chugging along like a champ. I continue to do lots of remodeling jobs--besides my full time job.

Right now, I'm installing solid oak treads and risers in a stair case. Just checked the millage and on the highway still getting a little over 20 MPG.

So, GM took care of me and I am very, very appreciative. I am now a GM man and will always giving them first crack at a new vehicle.

Thanks again for all your pointers.

Thanks for keeping us posted! How many miles you have on your truck now?

Glad things have worked out well for you. I too have a 2014 Sierra and read a lot of horror stories on here and while I have had some minor glitches like the loose seat and Service brake and Traction control lights coming on for no reason and a lot of recalls, my engine and trans have been fine. And gas mileage is and has been good. I hope that you continue to have good luck with yours.

Like I have said before, and I will continue to say, I have 25 friends that own/owned K2XX trucks , and only two have experienced anything major with them. None were vibration related.

Another useless post by 1997SLT. Do you even own anything late model, or you just like to sit on the sidelines and make idiotic remarks?

Remember, use the ignore feature...

I enjoyed this thread, but it does highlight a problem I have with the entire automotive industry.

Everything we know about the reliability of these trucks (all brands) is anecdotal. There is literally no hard data on the reliability of these vehicles. The only actual data we have to go on is sales numbers, which is why people often quote sales numbers as if they actually mean something.

So you have people saying things like (my friend has X many trucks and only X broke down), and then you have people responding in mockery like 1997SLT did above. But none of it means a damn thing.

I would think that if legislators are so concerned about protecting jobs that they would give huge amounts of taxpayer money to bail out these large companies because they were too poorly run to make money, these companies should be forced to release their warranty claim and reliability data as well. Consumers have a right to be able to make informed choices about what product to buy, based on more than "My friend Joe has owned twelve Chevy trucks and never had a problem!". Taxpayers who bailed these companies out deserve to go they are getting their monies worth knowing that GM is making a worthwhile product.

I guess what I'm asking is should we demand our legislators create laws to force car/truck companies to release their warranty claim data; or some other metric to give us some hard data on reliability?

Anyway. Thanks for the long story and the followup. But I find myself annoyed that these types of stories are the only thing we consumers have to go on when deciding where to invest our $50+K.

IMO

Everything we buy is a gamble, roll of the dice.
