Any Road/Mountain Cyclist ?

How do you loan up your expensive bikes? I'm currently laying my 29er MB flat ontop of a heavy duty anti-slid pad, with an adjustable lockbar in the back to hold it in place, don't have pics, will take some tomorrow, just wondering what you guys are using?

I don't have an expensive MB, but I hauled my Trek MB around a couple times in an open bed tied in like a dirt bike...standing up, tied down with the handlebars.

I just bought a Giant Defy 2 (same day as my truck actually) and haven't decided yet. I have a hitch mount platform rack that I could use, but might just lay it down on me Bedrug mat so I can keep it out of view.

My Specialized road bike fits nicely in the back seat after I put the seat up. There, it's safe and stays clean.

I ride mountain. I stand my bike up against one side of the bed then run a ratchet strap around the bike. It goes from one forward tie down point, around the head tube, behind the seatpost and then attaches to a rearward tie down point.

You have two options. There is a bed bar that you can get that goes across the bed. It has 2 spots where you take the front wheel off and then run the skewer back thru to hold the bike in and upright. I would then put the wheel either in the cab or between the inside of the bed and the bar. I did it this was for many years.

Then I got a Kuat receiver hitch rack, they are not cheap $500+ but they are the best carrier on the market. If I am by myself I just lay mine down flat in the bed, but I also have a tonneau cover that locks so that is why I do it that way to keep it dry and out of sight.

I lay mine flat on the bedrug, then close and lock the Truxedo Lo-Pro QT cover. If you have the 6.5 foot bed and remove the front wheels, you can close and lock two bikes flat in the bed with the cover closed.

I have a cabon fiber road bike. Pretty picky about how I haul it. If it's just my bike alone I just stand it up across the back of bed against the tail gate and use a couple bungee cords to hold in place. I have a liner on the tail gate so thats where the pedal goes up against and I wedge the bike tires against each side. Been hauling it that way for several years in my old truck and now on this one. I never let the tail gate down, just lift it up over it.

Both of my bikes are CF with a lot of $$$ sunk into them, hauled them for years on the side with the drivetrain side up, never had an issue. If I am by myself I go this route as it is quicker than putting the hitch carrier on and it allows me to keep them under the cover and locked up.
