Mike1220 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Just finished getting them installed. Ran out of day light but it wasn't tough. The hardest part was messing with the airbox. There is plenty of room with the stock airbox for these to fit. Not sure where I'm going to finally mount the control boxes yet. Right now I have them stuck with the double sided Velcro tape strips. Driver side is on the wall of the spare battery spot, passenger is wedged in beside the rear of the headlight. I don't like how the wires are kind of crimped coming out of the passenger side, but the wire from the light to the truck is extremely short, therefore mounting options are limited without adding more to the oem connector. I'll get some install pics in the daylight tomorrow evening if I can. Going to head out after dinner and get some driving shots. I may have to readjust the bulbs as well as I just adjusted them both according to Jon A's post and will do further adjusting from there. I will say my initial thoughts/impressions were "wow!!these are way brighter than the stock bulbs!" We will see how the distance is and if further adjusting is needed of the bulbs. Super easy install though minus that damn airbox. Pics to come soon! -Skeet Can't wait to see the pictures! Looks like I might have mine on Thursday so if I get a chance I'll put them in. I'll just take out the driver side for comparison pics this weekend when I do my LED vs halogen vs HID

Skeeter McSkeet Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Alright so got out on the road this evening and the driver side light went out after 5 min of driving. Shortly after the passenger side went out too! JUST KIDDING! These things are amazing in my book. I can actually drive without my fog lights on with no problem now. I was seeing road signs get lit up a good 120 yards away or more is my best guess (about a 3/4 swing pitching wedge is what it looked like on yardage to me). I may need to adjust them a touch to tighten up the beam, seems a little scattered for better use of words. I could keep them as is with no complaints though. When I turn on my fogs (oem) I can barely tell they are on. I couldn't get any good shots of the front for color comparison to the DRL's, but it is about spot on (I got the 5000k set). The edges of the road are lit up a whole lot better, I can see to make turns on dark back roads now; who woulda thought?! High beam didn't take any light away from the road, it just added more from the low beam cutoff up into the tree tops. Both low and hi beam proved very useful. Anyway, got a few pics while driving, granted not the best, but enough so you can at least see what we have been waiting for. I can't compare these to an HID kit installed as I never put mine in. I would highly recommend them if you are on the fence, hands down a great mod that not only looks good but has a great performance aspect to it as well. Low beams: High beams: -Skeet

Low beams: High beams: -Skeet What color did you get? How well do they match the DRLs? Just curious. Also they look like they have a lot wider beam than the OEM bulb [emoji106], maybe even wider than the HIDs I had installed. EDIT: my bad, just read the last paragraph of your post. I didn't see a 4500K option on VLED's website. Do you mean you got the 5000K?
Dangerdick Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Thats really terrible high beam performance... It's all foreground and there is no throw whatsoever...
Dangerdick Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 This is the Sierra-spec HIDs for comparison
Skeeter McSkeet Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yea I wrote that half asleep mike, 45w 5k is what I have not 4500k. They are noticeably wider as far as the beam pattern, but like I said I'll probably need to adjust the bulbs a little. I'm not a pro at any of this by any means, so that may take some time to figure out where they need to be set on my part. When u get yours set, try and remember how many turns you twisted the collar on them for me haha! Those look good Danger! Are you using stock projectors? I didn't think these would top a HID setup regardless if it was a retro fit or not. I just liked the durability aspect (hopefully) and ease of install on these. I rarely use high beams, the main point of me making the purchase was to have usable light in everyday driving situations at night so I could see and not worry about hitting a deer I didn't see or a dog or a ditch when making a turn on a back road lol. I'm very pleased with them! I would still like to see these in an FXR projector or some other type vs OEM for comparison against an HID setup. I know they won't out out perform an HID setup, but may be a close contest. I know many have had success and no problems with the HID's, I've just read too many problems with them and figured with my luck I'd be one of them. -Skeet

Thanks! I can't wait to see how they match the Rigid's either man. I'm wanting to buy a set but am waiting for you guys that already have then installed to get these put in first. I honestly spent more time with the airbox and getting the rubber grommet that goes in the back side of the dust covers around the oem bulb connector than anything. Install of the bulbs took maybe 5 minutes tops total. If you got a set of dust caps from Jon A, I found it easier to keep the rubber grommet on the outside of the dust cover with the wires threaded through, then screwing the dust cover back on. Once it's back on, it's way easier to snap the grommet into place rather than try and get it on while holding it as the wire lengths prevent you from having much room to work with. Also, you will need to take the rubber rings off the base of the oem dust covers and add them to the replacements. I could use some install tips myself as far as what position to have the bulb in the collar. I guess just adjust them until the cutoff line looks good on a wall? Not sure how far to be away from it or anything as I'm an amateur in the lighting business. -Skeet

My vleds are on the truck for delivery today and im going to try to get them on tonight! I just hope these hold up and last as long as they say. oh and btw, you had me about to cry when you started your review talking about how they failed!
DenaliDually Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Great. Now I have a box of fxr 3.0s and 50w 6k hids that I want nothing to do with... I don't think I need anything more than Skeeters setup. I do agree with Danger that the high beam is still a bit weak. I guess with out adding any light and just adjusting existing lumens there's only so much that one can get. I think a 10" spot bar in the center cutout on my GMC tied into the high beams will give me the mountian/back road performance I am looking for... Great install! Can't wait for Mike to do his and show WITH the DOT fogs... They probably aren't necessary but I'm putting mine on just for a back up! 2015 Denali 3500 DRW, Michelin ltx, 4x4
Skeeter McSkeet Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 oh and btw, you had me about to cry when you started your review talking about how they failed! Lol I had to put that in to temporarily ruin hopes and dreams hahahaha! Can't wait till you guys get them installed, I'm pleased with them, they have exceeded my expectations for a LED bulb by far! I didn't get flashed any with them last night, but they seemed to wonder a little too far over into the other lane. Not down the road but right when an oncoming vehicle had its front bumper passing mine, I could see eyes reflecting. I don't know if that's normal or not as I never have really looked for it until now. So I may definitely need to adjust the bulbs some. Are the Rigid's a pretty straightforward install with the brackets and hooking them up? I might go ahead and order them today. I gotta say I was nervous hooking these up, but they both turned on first try when I was testing them. It's cool they are instant on too and don't have to heat up like an HID. -Skeet

Tree cover was pretty good above most of the roads, and the only other light source nearby for miles was from the moon trying to sneak through. When I did turn my oem fogs on, I couldn't even see them except for a small portion on the road to the outer edge right in front of the truck. I could tell a light came on if I looked for it. They added no help to these lights whatsoever honestly. Id like to see these in your FXRs! -Skeet

Instructions that come with it were very clear too.
