I was just looking and the 5k is a very slightly brighter hue than the DRL but not much, I'd say it's your closest match.

I got my 5Ks in tonight and I think that they are a perfect match my friend.

Stock halogen

5K LMZ

Bad picture of the LMZ. I personally think that these look like an OEM HID.

Also, DAMN! These things are incredible! Completely surpassed my expectations. Much cleaner light than my 5K 55W HIDs I had. Also, instant on is a bonus. These lights I do think are a very strong contender against the 55W HIDs that I was using, partly because the light seems a lot cleaner

And for those who are looking forward to my side halogen vs HID vs LED side by side comparisons. I'm not 110% sure when I'll be able to do it. If I can tonight then it'll be much later and if it's not tonight then it'll likely have to be next weekend or the following.

Pretty excited about these lights, I have been reading a bunch on all the lighting options on the sierras. I have an SLE, are these a plug and play job for the most part. Do i need to purchase anything other then the kit? Will they work with the SLE, I do not have the led running lights as im sure you all know. Lastly, is there any reason you chose these over the Lifetime LED's???

What "lifetime LEDs" are you talking about? Is it a certain brand? Or just the actual lifespan. Cause as skeet said, pretty much any LED can be used for the duration of your lifetime. Chances are that I'll be able to use these LED headlight bulbs in any vehicle that I own in the next 30-40 years (Im guessing, idk, maybe I'll do more night driving and kill them sooner). At 30,000+ hours of expected life, I'd be amazed if they die sooner than that.

As far as use in an SLE, I don't think anyone has actually tried these in an SLE. I know a few ppl have used other LED bulbs in the Silverados and they required a harness much like an HID. Couldn't imagine this one would be much different

JUST A NOTICE TO ALL PPLS

The ballasts for these bulbs can fit under the replacement dust covers made by Jon A. You will just have to let the ballast rest inside the headlight under the bulb and projector. I drove around with them like that tonight and the back of the cap sealed. No issues. I also did a heat comparison test between the 55W OEM halogen and the LMZs. I had the halogen on one side and the LMZ on the other. Both headlights were sealed using Jon A's covers with tape over the hole made for those who want the ballast on the outside. I used an infrared thermometer and probed around after 30 minutes (halogen) and 35 minutes (LMZ) [got a phone call while doing the halogen that slowed me down] and there was only about a 15 degree F difference. Not much. Halogen was 185.4F and LMZ 170.1F

Does anyone think that leaving the ballast will cause an issue? The ballasts only got up to 145F whether inside or outside the housing. Temp difference for housing with ballast in and out was only 10F difference (about 160.3F)

These temperatures are the hottest readings I got and were pretty much all from the projector itself. So this isn't ambient air temps inside of the housings.

I'm goina put the ballasts in there tomorrow too. [emoji106]

I wonder if any issue could be caused by having them in there though. I mean, having them inside the housing can't be much different from being in the engine bay which can get pretty high up there in temp as well.

I could use some install tips myself as far as what position to have the bulb in the collar. I guess just adjust them until the cutoff line looks good on a wall? Not sure how far to be away from it or anything as I'm an amateur in the lighting business.

Once you're close, I don't think you'll see much difference in the cutoff with slight adjustments if you keep the bulb orientation the same. If you check the highs, the difference is easier to see. Screw them in farther and the beam gets tighter, screw them out and the beam gets wider. The hotspot for highs will never get as tight as the stock bulb, but in my opinion they were way too narrow anyway.

That might be the best solution yet! It solves the issues cause by the wires not being long enough to comfortably locate the ballast elsewhere and sealing the cap is easy. Is the ballast going to rattle around in there though? I don't know if this will be OK or not. Hopefully it will and it'll be a nice solution!

I guess we're sort of making this up as we go. When I initially called the guys at VLED, they said the bulbs wouldn't work because they wouldn't fit with enough room for the fan to cool them. I said I could make new caps and he said that would be great and I should make them available to everybody else. So here we are....

If it were me, I would not go with 6000k. That color gives off a blue hue, which will not match your DRLs.

Are you speaking from seeing these exact bulbs or other bulbs rated at 6000k? My VLED LMZ headlights are 6000K but they don't give off any blue hue that I can see. Just a very cold, white light.

My PIAA fogs, however are also rated at 6000K. They do have a noticable blue hue. Apparently not all manufactures strictly adhere to the same color charts....

I just got rid of 6000k VLED fog lights. They put out a blue hue compared to my 5000k HID Morimoto headlights, 5000k VLED fog lights and 5000k VLED V3 Tritons..

Yeah my 6000k are pretty much pure white. Maybe a slight hint of blue but not much.

I'm needing some help with adjusting the lights. I screwed the collar all the way to the back then unscrewed it about 3.5 times. The driver side flare pattern flares up on the outside so I guess that not perfectly horizontal. But this is what I got. Notice the two dots above the cutoff, how is that corrected?

Continue the trial and error of adjusting the bulb my friend. At this point. No one has found that perfect "sweet spot" for how the LEDs should be placed/adjusted. Once someone does then there will be no random light spots above the cutoff and the cut off will be better

How is the width with these things? HIDs throw just as much light to the sides as they do front but these modules don't have a complete 180° throw from the emitter correct? So I would imagine side illumination would be diminished?

Are y'all putting these in stock projector housings? I'm guessing these wouldn't work on my Silverado reflector housings without blinding others. Plus I have the stupid DRL low beams.

It's more about how you have them in the projector. Kinda like Jon A has said (not sure if in this thread or another), if you have the bulbs as far in as possible, the beam is more narrow. The further back, the wider. I think the beam is abot the same as it was when I had HIDs as I have them right now. I have mine almost all the way in. But I'm waiting till I hit the highway or get some better testing before I give a definitive answer on width.

Width is 100 times better than the oem bulbs in the projectors IMO.

I agree with you there. The lmz's are just an all around brighter light. Not disappointed at all with mine! Especially if they're going to last 30000 hours!
