First Oil Change

First oil change on the 15 was at a little over 500 miles. The other 2 have been when OLM is below 20% or roughly 7500-8000 miles. All oil changes done with Mobil 1 EP 0W20 as specified by manual.

That's interesting, I ran the OLM down to zero or near zero...best I ever got was 6500 miles on this 2012 2500. Wonder why the difference? And that's with grocery getter use...

Short trips are going to be harder on the OLM ........ When I did hit 0% or close to 10,000 miles it was a lot of highway miles................ And this was a Duramax holding 10 qts. But my 1500 that is coming will hold 8 qts !

Oh, I have a 6.0l...that's likely the difference.

You are stating nothing new and certainly not answering the question/concern I have. The truck has a break in period, like every other truck I've owned from GM. Don't drive too hard, do not maintain high speeds, do not tow etc etc. So if you cannot provide documentation regarding break in pertaining to oil, refrain from spouting something everyone knows. We know that the "counter" is set and will come on when time/period is near for an oil change. That stuff is a given. What is not clear is GM saying if the first oil should not be changed until 7,500 miles, that it is their policy or just something the dealer is saying. That's my point.

Refrain from "spouting" something everyone knows? Dude, I will answer any question I see fit, so no, I will not refrain from posting. In addition, I think maybe you should refrain from smart ass comments. The information Posted, that you say you and everyone else knows clearly went over your head. My point of posting that was that GM tells you what you need to know...it is specific in what it doesn't say, which is there is no 7,500 mile oil change specified by GM. If there were, they would state it along with the information I posted. Your dealer is telling you a load of BS. GM clearly states to change your oil under the two options I posted. Stop making it more difficult than it is, and refrain from "spouting" off that you and everyone else "knows this", when you clearly don't comprehend English well enough to know GM tells you everything you need to know in the damn manual.

Regardless of the OCLM, Chevrolet gave me a free oil change at both 5k and another at 10k for my '17. I don't think they'd give it away free, twice, without good reason, especially at 8 quarts a pop. When I bought the truck, the tech I spoke to said to change it at 1000 miles, and said that where ever I bought the oil, to make sure it was "Dexos approved."

Just food for thought.

You get a couple of oil changes of whatever grade the vehicle calls for. In my 2500 Max, I opted to up the quality. This new 6.2l that I have has just 1k miles on it. In my original post, I wondered about the first oil change and I did note that most people are changing the oil at or around that mileage.... below 2k miles let's say. I know from other vehicles that I would see a change oil notification at certain intervals. What is questionable is that 7,500 miles is a stretch for a first oil change. One dealer says 7500 miles and another says 5000 miles. I wondered if there was something specific in the manual that I missed or whether someone could offer something official that states when the first oil change should be. I've looked through the manual, searched the manual and I haven't seen anything about it.

I scheduled an oil chg for the 21st March. I have a 2014 LT and the dealer says that they use full synthetic ACDelco oil - have been for over a month. They also said I would be able to go 1 year between changes because of using the full synthetic oil.

I've read in several places that ACDelco full synthetic Dexos oil is simply rebranded Mobil-1 and that Mobile supplies it to GM ??

When's the last time anybody has heard of engines problems from not changing the oil frequently enough? I can't remember anybody in decades. Just go by the OLM and you'll be fine. No need to change the oil early when new.

Sludging issues with Dodge 2.7 V6s, VW/Audi 1.8 turbos, BMW I-6s, to name a few.

When new is perhaps the most important time to change the oil; regardless of "modern tech," metal parts wear, and that is the junk that needs to be removed.
