Seafoam comes with the hose like that for putting in the air boot. For CRC just disconnect your air box and put the hose in the air tube, make sure you put it in far enough so that the hose is passed the MAF sensor.

yep, gotta admit the scraper is genius. Probably more reliable than the wife. DEFINITELY less mouthy about the situation.

 

How did you get the CRC into the intake? did you use one of the vent holes on the air tube? or did you actually remove the air tube from the air box and spray in after the MAF?

From his pic he stuck it in right at the TB using a J shaped spray hose.

 

I'm debating what to do with mine. I don't want to throw a CEL doing this. I need ma truck! I've got a flexible hose in the shop but it's.. not small. The other option is to just leave a small crack around where the TB meets the air tube and spray into the TB that way.

 

I don't wanna inject this stuff into the air tube itself after the MAF, I feel like the giant air box thing in the center will just get most of it lost in there and I'll be running this stuff through my engine for months to come.

I used the j shaped hose that came with my seafoam, OP used CRC that does not come with that hose., I would assume he went in where the air box connects.another option is to take the hose off the TB and spray directly into it while keeping the RPM up. As long as you keep the rpm up around 2000 it wont matter where you spray it because there should be enough air suction to get it in the intake manifold.

Im sure it wouldn't be hard to make some sort of piece like the one that came with the seafoam. You could really use anything to jam between the boot and the TB.

Just picked up the CRC stuff. Yup.. $10 with a $5 rebate card.

 

Now to find a broom or something to stand on the gas pedal for a few minutes..

I just finished the process. I saved a little bit in the can in case I need to clean the TB.

 

I used the lower part of my jack handle and the seat to mash the pedal. It went up to about 2200 rpm but that seems ok.

 

I stuck the end into the intake tube just past the airbox/maf.

 

Engine revved higher whenever I was spraying and then would quickly adjust down when I let go of the nozzle.

 

It says to give it an hour to "heat soak" and then drive it "at highway speeds." uumm I dont think my driveway is long enough for that. :lol: But I'll take it for a ride in about an hour.

I wonder what the chemical difference between seafoam and crc is because seafoam says on the can to let it heat soak for only 5 minutes. Thats what I did and when I started it up it puffed out some black smoked. I took it for a drive and when I stepped on the gas it bogged down and blew out a big cloud of smoke.

to be honest, I'm expecting no change, no black smoke, no puff of junk out the exhaust.. and no mileage/performance improvement.

 

But ya know.. its hard to be disappointed when your expectation is 0. :lol:

I've got a TON of driving to do this week (120 miles wed. 165 Thursday) and potentially 300 this weekend, so, if I can get this in before I go that'll be nice to get some benchmarks.

 

I kinda wish now I'd have bought some TB cleaner too. I think I'm out in the shop. I figure it'd be a good idea to make sure the TB isn't gunked up on the back side like the 99-06s used to do before I start. I may have some brake cleaner. Ya think that's a bad idea on these new DBW/sensor filled TBs?

 

Hrmm.. just realized I don't have a u shaped hose like that either.

 

CRC actually has a MAF and a TB cleaner if you are so inclined. Usually sold right beside the IVC. As for the tube, I just slipped it under the lip of the hose right behind the MAF. Worked great. Much easier than the U tube in the TB.

Mine acted exactly the same way. In fact, that's how I knew when the can was empty. No more rev up!

You shouldnt get any smoke until you start it up after heat soaking.

 

I didn't get any, which I'll admit was a surprise to me.

That's very odd, maybe that wasn't a good place to suck it in? could have pooled up in the air intake. Either that or after an hour it evaporates.

 

Edit - Reading other forums and people say it should blow out smoke after sitting for an hour. I would maybe try again going right into the throttle body if there is no smoke.
