Blackbear Tune vs Diablew Tune

The inTune programming is undetectable. What GM looks for in their review of the data logs is recorded performance data that is in excess of, or not consistent with the OEM tune at the time of the failure. As stated above, flash counts can be explained away by battery disconnect/reconnect and isn't proof positive that the original tune had been altered. Where they get you is if your vehicle's data log shows that your drive train was performing at a level not supported by their tune. That, they feel, is sufficient to deny your claim. And they're right. This is information that was provided by a GM Tech on another GM truck site.

Hey buddy, do you have links to info provided by a GM tech on another GM truck site? I just want to read it. Not doubting your recap.

Sure you are. Here you go, pal. This starts on page 3 but I recommend reading the first 12 or so pages, as well. Pay particular attention to the picture on the bottom of page 3. Be sure to read the caption beneath it.

Also, here is a copy of the Service Bulletin:

The gents site name is RagsMatt, GM Tech. By the way, the referenced thread will be of great interest to inTune users. It explains why inTune can claim to be undetectable.

Keeping the warranty would be an added bonus, so Im thinking the Diablew route would be best for me.

So long as you are returning to the stock tune, there shouldn't be any issues with detection. None of our customers that have gone in for warranty work, have had issues.

Oh I see... so both BBP and Diablew are undetectable as long as you put the stock tune back in before going to the dealer? Good to know.

Instead of making a new thread i figured i'd resurrect this one.

Questions.

For the Diablew tune do you have to buy the intune, then let Lew customize it from there? If so that puts it nearly on par with blackbear prices. I've planned on blackbear for sometime, just keeping an open mind. My cousin has a blackbear tune on his 09 sierra and it has been great.

In the event of warranty work you'll have to flash to the stock programming/tune and from there it shouldn't be a problem?

For blackbear do you buy a module or anything like that? If not how exactly do you get into the programming of the ECM/TCM to allow BB to customize it? I guess this is all explainable on their site?

Idk if i was really looking to run through multiple tunes, so much as just wondering in the event of using the warranty what needs to be done. I'm more or less looking for a tune to add some power to the truck. I feel like once i get these 295/70/17 RTs my MPG is going to tank.

Just had my bb tune twice. He will give up new tunes to fit your need. Autocal is the way to go so yiu can switch. Fuel mpg tune aggressive e85 tune 87 tune tow tune. I can store all of it in my autocal. Great device. I run sport tcm and e85 ecm 99 percent of the time. Best thing about it is throttle response. Huve smile.

dont turn on the afm. you will find your hwy mpg is equal or better. doing 60-65 i can get 22-23mgp in my 6.2 and doing 75-85 i got about 19-20.

I had him enable the AFM again. I gained another 3-5mpg.  Without AFM I never see 20's. With it I can see 22-24 all the time. I do drive 37 miles one way every day so the AFM is huge for me.

After reading about the collapsed lifter issues with these trucks I turned off my AFM this week. I don't notice any gains because I went from E85 to 91 and the power from E85 is so much better I actually felt a loss in performance.  E85 is not great in cold weather so I'm switching to 88 based E15 instead. E85 starts really hard in cold weather and I don't want to kill my battery.  So far I have lost 4Mpg this week.  I calculated that turning off AFM for me will cost me anywhere from $60 a month to $95.  I can get 20Mpg with E85 and no wind. So far with 91 octane and no AFM I'm getting 17.4. But I have had wind to deal with so I will know more in time.

I'll give it more time and I do feel more comfortable with it off after hearing the collapsed lifter stories.

You can run multiple tunes with the intune just like autocal.

Yes, you have to buy the intune before Lew can tune just like you’ve gotta buy the module from Blackbear before you can tune.

Yes you can flash to stock with the diablo.

Blackbear tunes with EFI Live and Lew uses Diablo CMR. 6 in one half a dozen another. I use the diablo for my charger so that’s why I’m using it on my truck. Once I get headers I’ll have Lew tune it. He’s got a huge following with the Hemi crowd just like Blackbear does with the GM crowd. Pick the one you like and get it. You won’t regret it.

No. You buy the autocal (it's totally blank/empty of any tunes), receive it in the mail, data log your truck with it, email the log, wait 3-7 days for the tune to be emailed back to you, install the tune, and burn rubber. Repeat the data log and email process for each new tune you want.
