Denali's were easy to find when I bought mine. I could have bought the 5.3 with any color/options I would have wanted in Houston.

The 6.2 was impossible find. No dealer in Houston had one, in any color with any options, on the lot, I only found 1 new in DFW and 2 in SA. I had to go to SA to get it the way I wanted it (and it was actually in transit when I started negotiating, not actually in stock yet), when I spoke with the dealer there, he said they trade trucks with Houston all the time, but because neither place can keep the 6.2's in stock (he said they all sell within 10 days of landing on the lot, most in 4-5 days), they said it is the only thing that they would not trade with Houston dealers.

More Denali's doesn't mean much, unless it means more 6.2's, but honestly, less of them the better... just means mine will be more desirable when it comes time to sell it.

Apparently not every dealership advertises on Autotrader, because I know there's around 4-5 6.2 Denali's for sale in the OKC metro area. Not one showed up on there.

Of course. I don't think I meant that post as an absolute inventory availability. But it does point out how rare they are and how low inventory they seem to be nationwide. In comparison to other manufacturer trucks; their "top-tier" engines are readily available.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. 6.2's are still a lot harder to find. Combine 6.2 and Iridium and it's even worse... :(

so is it good business or bad business? I thought it was pretty ridiculous I had cash(financing I guess) and gm didn't have what I wanted available. Seems like I am not the only one that wanted to get a 6.2, why is gm not pumping them out?

Seems like bad business to me to not have what is in demand

I would think it'd be good business to be sending out more 6.2L Denali trucks. I can't imagine the extra $2k for the 6.2 would deter most for buying a truck on the lot when the starting price of the truck is close to $50k.

I think the 6.2 should be standard on a Denali with a 5.3 option for those looking to save a little $ or get an extra mpg or two.

honestly i was in between and figured i could get what i needed out of a 5.3 with better gas mileage. then i started considering the what if's and figured 2k for the 6.2 would cover itself in resale value long term and could cover any what ifs in regards to towing/pulling.

mpg is no reason to consider a 5.3 over 6.2 in my experience. i probably get better than most 5.3's.

I have a black/black 15' Denali 1500 6.2 8-speed being delivered on Wednesday. When I talked to the dealer last month they told they have two 6.2's being built so I took one and apparently the other is taken now, too. HE said he has limited access to them at this point and they sell quickly.

There is a dealer in my area that has a pile of them (must have at least 30 listed) but every single one a 5.3 except for one 6.2. Luxury trucks are selling. I actually use mine in the oilfield but not as a work truck, just wheels to get to and from various remote areas and production sites. My trucks definitely get muddy and dusty but I don't beat them down. It really is nice to travel to and from these sites in a luxury truck. It does make being away and travelling a lot of km's alone a lot nicer.

BTW, I did go back to GM and the Denali from a 2014 Ram Longhorn because GM finally got rid of the AWD and went with the normal Autotrac units in the new models. Curious how the Magnetic ride works.

I specifically bought the 5.3 and am quite happy with it. The thing that threw me from the 6.2 is the manuals requirement for premium gas. Although the dealer says you can run either, the book says it will void the warranty. The only real issue with these trucks is the running problems with everything else. Seat heat is sporadic, shark fin antenna required replacement for Nav to work, and the little rattles coming from the headliner, drivers door, rear d/s passenger door and right dash. For 42K Denali you would think these kinks would have been worked out. But overall I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Is this true? I've heard that the 6.2 recommends running premium gas, but I wasn't aware that running regular unleaded would void the warranty.

I read the owners manual cover to cover before my purchase and made an error in my post... " if the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine VIN Code J use premium unleaded gas with an ASTM rating of 91 or higher." Regular 87 octane can be used, but acceleration and fuel economy will be reduced, and audible knocking noise may be heard..." Page 9-63. Sorry!!

Oh me, high test gasoline? I use only top tier gasoline, but premium kind of turns me away from 6.2, an engine I love!

Denali should just come standard with the 6.2L.

Not if you're in the business of selling vehicles, that is why it no longer comes "standard" w/ shi**y ass AWD - GM gets to ticky tack the buyer even more w/ incremental add-ons, while still allowing the truck to be more available to the masses.

Really, what is the difference between a fully loaded SIerra SLT and a 5.3 equipped Denali besides a plastic grill, badges, and the price?
